As usual, I am very late in posting, but if I don’t get these thoughts up now, with the premiere hours away (EEP!), I never will. Observations made during the rewatch. )

I obviously skipped all the standalone eps, but even some of the arc related eps I wasn't particularly fond of. The season seemed to be working pretty well up through 'Torn' and then went off the rails until 'The Son Also Rises'.

I've spent so much time looking at and reediting this post, I am no longer sure it makes any sense. And, yes, the DVDs come out tomorrow, your point? ;)

I’ve had a strange relationship with ‘Unfinished Business’ this past week. I was not a fan of the original version, even less so of this new extended cut. My immediate reaction was I hated it and never wished to see it again. There was even a point where I found it hard to look at Lee/Jamie and, if you know me at all, that is really saying something. For several reasons, I opted not to write down my thoughts right away and instead I thought about it, a lot. While some additions still make little sense to me, others started to make sense. It’s not that I necessarily liked some of the conclusions I was drawing, but by looking at the episode in the context of the entire series, some things actually made more sense to me, other things I was merely able to rationalize.

On Sunday, I did a brain dump, spending two hours revisiting thoughts and notes. It wasn’t my initial intent, but somewhere along the line this seems to have become an ‘In Defense of Lee Adama’ post. It has less to do with the inevitable fandom backlash I foresee and more about me and my need to make sense of a character I love when there are moments in ‘Unfinished Business’ where he’s really hard to like. At the same time, as I reevaluated and my feelings about Lee, I did so for Kara and this is where I may encounter some unpopularity. Really, I like her! It’s the writing! I’m sure much of this comes down to character bias. I love Lee and I’m certain that there are a significant number of people that can rationalize Kara’s behavior as well.

You tell yourself, "Never again." I said it after Buffy, Alias, Farscape and even have flirted with the possibility once Battlestar Galactica airs it's last episode. But, this evening, as I'm watching The Sarah Conner Chronicles I found myself taking notes. Yes, folks, once again I am screwed. :/

Dungeons & Dragons )

OK, why does NBC Universal have to continually frak with us? [info]greycoupon posted earlier that The Battlestar Galactica DVD site has deleted Season 3 scenes for viewing if you play some games. Fortunately, someone has kindly posted the scenes HERE on YouTube you can skip the game playing. What I'm pissed about is that these scenes will, apparently, not be on the DVDs. This is the same thing they pulled with the Season 2 DVD's, excluding a bunch of scenes that had been posted to the SciFi site. Sigh.

Btw, my friends to the west and south, if you want to know why I tend to roll my eyes when I hear complaints about snowfall in your parts, Michigan is on course to have over 100 inches of snow this winter. Not a record may I add. :p

March 23rd! And here's the link with even more details.

Not quite the New Year's post I had planned. I was going to stay home tonight, listen to the Razor commentary, and work on my list of resolutions, but then a friend called me about getting together tonight and I figured it might be nice to be social. Of course, she also mentioned me bringing brownies and several box sets of DVDs and now I'm wondering why she isn't coming here. So, significant posting shall have to wait until next year. ;) In the meantime, everyone have a happy and safe New Year.

Apparently, it’s been a week since I last posted. Huh. It doesn’t seem that long. I’m on the last day of my five day mini vacation. WAH! I wish I had relaxed more. It’s hard for me to do nothing when I know there are things I could be doing. That’s part of the problem with just staying home. You’re surrounded by your stuff. You can see the projects waiting for your attention. Or the laundry in need of washing. On the Brightside, the magazine pile of doom has gotten much lower. The DVDs and CDs are now organized so I can find them easily. And the DVR is relatively cleaned up.

I didn’t do any marathon DVD viewing as planned, but I’m now well into Season 2 of Due South. Is it just my imagination or did the show try to become more serious in Season 2? And three eps in a row exploring Ray V’s love life when he couldn’t get a date in Season 1 seemed odd. I also feel that if it was going to happen it would have by now, so, for the record, I am not seeing the slash. It’s like Jack and Daniel on Stargate for me. There are moments where I can understand how others may see it or wish to create the scenario, but it’s just not happening for me. And just like Jack/Daniel, I love the Fraser/Ray V friendship. It’s awesome that these two friendless people - because who else could put up with them? - found each other and support each other no matter what. But I don’t want to envision them having sex together and there is enough evidence on screen that the thought would send them running in opposite directions from each other too.

All of which makes me want to sit down and think about why I see the slash when I do see it. I never even understood people being enamored with the idea until I watched the Hornblower films. Sure, Jamie and Ioan are very pretty, have a nice chemistry, and there were really no women to come between them, but is that it? I’ve read and written Lee/Helo and there are most certainly women to come between them and I support (most ;) of those ships. And now there is my little Oz obsession (which I need to write about at some point). On that series I don’t even have to use my imagination it’s there, a lot. Perhaps it comes down to the actors, the characters, and a need that those characters satisfy in each other (and I’m not just talking sex) that I, personally, find missing on DS.

I watched the Doctor Who premiere on SciFi Friday night even though, like many of you, I saw the episodes some months ago. [info]danceswithwords had not yet seen ‘The Runaway Bride’ and it was interesting to get her take on it after viewing all of Season 3 and casting spoiler for Season 3/Season 4 )

Here are my thoughts from when I first watched ‘The Runaway Bride’ back in December. Reading them again I think it’s still a fair assessment of the episode. However, cut again for Season 3/Season 4 casting discussion )

I didn’t watch much of Live Earth, but I did manage to catch The Police and let me once again reiterate that Sting must have made a deal with Satan at some point.

Did I mention one of my coworkers had tickets to see The Police in Chicago last week? Yeah, hate her.

Considering the track records of networks swearing they’ll burn off the remaining episodes of a canceled series and then either change the schedule before they air (FOX, I’m looking at you with Drive) or air one episode then pull the series again, I’m not holding my breath on ABC’s decision to air the rest of ‘The Nine’. I suppose the one thing it has going for it is Tim Daly. Since he will be appearing on Peak Practice, perhaps the network wants to get his face on our screens before the new season starts.

[info]wisteria_ finally ;) reposted a little ficlet she had written in comments inspired by exchanges we had in regards to one of Jamie’s more dubious (infamous?) fashion choices. It’s very cute (and God I wish it was the reason!) and very G rated because you all know I don’t do RPF. The Green Flip-Flops of Doom.

The fic writing has gotten off to a slooooooow start. You apparently can get out of practice. I need to find time to write every day. What helped was rewatching (most of ) the final three eps of Season 3. ‘The Son Also Rises’ didn’t hold up quite as well for me (though I could watch the Sam/Lee scenes on a loop), but I enjoyed ‘Crossroads Pt 1 & 2' even more (I could watch that Lee/Laura scene on a loop). And there were a couple things that escaped me the first time around. What, unfortunately, couldn’t escape me is the person William Adama has become or perhaps always was, they just disguised it better.

Some Season 3 observations and venting. )

Oh, I did have one fairly major accomplishment over this break. I made a banner for [info]bamber_news! Considering my limited software, lack of graphics know how (I *finally* figured out layers), and coding panic, the fact that I managed what I did makes me very happy.

So, over at the spoiler comm., [info]reneedy linked this recent interview by Rob Owen from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette with Ron Moore. Man, it’s only been hours and there are spoilers for Season 4 already! Light spoilers, but, still, and Ron clarifies some things about last night’s ep. Anyway, I’ve copied and pasted the questions and edited out any direct references to season 4. And I have split up the remaining questions into two sections – clarification as to last night’s events which may put a damper on your speculating (though I’m hazarding to guess this all will be in the podcast) and what’s up with Caprica, the two-hour episode, and the future of the series.

Ron’s comments about ‘Crossroads Pt 2’. )

The extra episodes, ‘Caprica’, and the fate of the series. )

ETA: Maureen Ryan of the The Chicago Tribune has her review of 'Crossroads Pt 2' up. There's an interesting quote from Bear McCreaery regarding the musical selection and some interesting theorizing in the comments.

I'm at the start of a long, hopefully relaxing, weekend. I needed to use up some vacation days before my 9 (?!) year work anniversary next month. I have no specific plans other than massive amounts of cleaning, TV watching, perhaps some baking, and hopefully finishing up an HH fic I've been working on. Actually, a draft is done, but it needs tweaking. The end feels a little rushed to me. But, shockingly, it has an ending that I like. And as soon as BSG wraps season 3 this weekend I can start plotting out my epic. MUWAHAHAHAHA!!!

If anyone is wondering, yes, I did purposely take off Monday with the intention of staying up to the wee hours of the morning to obsess about/discuss the season finale. Wanna make something of it?

I actually had a decent week this week. The dream of a special edition of Factory magazine with Jamie on the cover is not dead. Though we are a looooong way off from achieving 1000 copies. If you feel like it, please spread the word. ::bats eyelashes at you::

I ended up getting ripped off by not one, but two postage machines at the post office on Saturday. After business hours, of course, so there was no one to speak to. But I left a message written on the back of a stop mail card stating I'd be back on Monday to discuss the matter and slid it under the manager's door. I was all prepared for an argument when I returned and, color me shocked, they were very nice and gave me all my money back!

Someone at work (not in my department) who I called on her ugly comments some months ago and it ended up splitting apart my regular lunch group and ending friendships because half the people sided with me and the others took no issue with her statement that all Hispanic men are short and fat (I won't even mention her gay jokes), well, she quit! Woo and Hoo! Turns out because of some of her behavior, which I won't go into, she's been getting a frosty reception from a lot of people at the office and she, apparently, felt she needed to go elsewhere. I'm enjoying this because she and her sister (who also works at the firm) seemed to think giving me the cold shoulder was having an affect on me accept not because the last kind of people I want to be associated with are those that trash others to feel better about themselves.

Anyone watching Raines? I don't know how I feel about this show. I sort of like the characters, but I also feel like Jeff Goldblum is playing Jeff Goldblum. And twenty minutes into last night's ep I knew exactly - and I do mean exactly - where the story was headed.

On the plus side I caught a commercial for Law & Order: SVU and since it's a show I don't regularly watch I wasn't paying much attention until heard "guest starring Tim Daly" Eeeeeee!!! Of course, what sucks is that House returns that night at 9:07 and running until 10:07 thus overlapping with SVU and I can't record both at the same time! I don't think. I wonder if I can record to a disk and the DVR? Must look into that.

Speaking of shows running at different times, here's my first reminder that BSG is airing from 10 to 11:05 Sunday. Set your TIVOs and DVRs accordingly. I'd hate for any of you to miss....whatever happens in the final few minutes. ;)

And now off to do stuff away from the computer...

The scene is already up at Sci-Fi's pulse site. Click on BSG and then scroll down to Exclusives and select. It's the third thumbnail I believe. Nothing really spoilery. Check it out now and avoid the 11:00pm rush!

This message brought to you by the original pilot of The Dresden Files sucking.

Well, I am finally caught up on the backlog of SG1 on the DVR. So here's Season 6 AKA The Season of Jonas, You Poor Bastard. ;) )

Hey, Flygirlcassie over at the Jamie Bamber Forum found a really cool link to a BSG on set visit.. There is some really detailed and interesting behind the scenes stuff reported on by a gentleman named David. There are a few teeny, tiny spoilers for the finale, he was there while they were shooting 'Crossroads' back in December, but he is very careful not to ruin anyones enjoyment of what is to come. If you are up to date in watching and know what the focus of the finale is going to be, I don't feel that there is anything there that will reveal or ruin anything.

Due to a variety of factors I ended up reading quite a few reviews of this ep before actually watching it. I think it’s safe to say the reactions ranged from mixed to not happy. After finally seeing the ep this afternoon, while I do agree it has its faults, I liked it, a lot. (You may guess why. ;)

[info]k_julia insisted I use the title.

This was about 98% written before the episode aired tonight. As I was watching, I was relieved to realize that what I had come up with earlier held up quite nicely, at least for me. I did do a few small tweaks, but nothing that changed what I had to say. And I will have much more to say about this episode later. This is just me focusing on one aspect of Lee Adama and trying to make sense of the character right now.

Oh, and I'm using the same icon twice in a row because when life gives you lemons, well, you know. ;-)

Ok, I normally go to bed around Midnight, so I'm not up that much later. And I was kind of watching a few scenes again and jotting down some thoughts and then I figured I might as well do the darn write up. Plus, I was a bit excited by the realization that Ron might actually have a plan!

I may post about The Dresden Files later, but, if not, I'll say it wasn't bad, I'll watch it again, and the I was quite pleased with the casting of Harry and Bob.
