I'm starting to worry about my BSG rewatch. I have 20 episodes to get through before the 16th. Though Season 4.0 I should be able to get through faster since those episodes are freshest in my mind and I doubt I'll have much to say beyond what I've already said. Speaking of Season 4.0, I managed to get the Best Buy Exclusive Edition. I was there when the doors opened at 10:00am. Yes, I went in late to work in order to purchase DVDs. When I walked in and went to the BSG section they only had one copy on display. The gentleman who got to the section the same time as I did was kindly going to let me have the exclusive set while he settled for the other. I said, "No, they are supposed to have a minimum of eight in the store." So, I grabbed a saleswoman and I followed her and the guy followed me and we tried to track down where the other copies were as I repeated to her they were supposed to have at least eight copies. She looked the information up on the computer and found they were supposed to have thirteen copies. It took her asking two other employees where they were before it was determined they were in their 'exclusives section'. That section turned out to be at the back of the store by appliances. O_o Anyway, the guy trailing me around thanked me for my help. :) Btw, if you go here at the Best Buy website they have two deleted scenes available for download (yes, download, color me shocked) apparently not included on the DVDs (sadly, not shocked). Zap2It has a Q&A posted about various shows including BSG. Ron and David did a conference call this afternoon and one non-spoilery bit about the finale was confirmed: Seems the tenth and final episode does actually stretches three hours. Sci Fi hasn't yet decided if they will chop it up into two installments for its original airing, but Moore and Eick said there are plans to air it in its entirety at least once. Also, today, I picked up a couple packages from my apartment complex office including a Christmas gift. Part of the gift was 'The Making of Horatio Hornblower', which is awesome on it's own, but when I opened the book to flip through it the page it opened to was Jamie's. People, the book knew! In news not related in any way to Jamie Bamber, this weekend, after living in Michigan my entire life, I finally visited The Henry Ford Museum with a group of friends. zarniwhooper had been planning the trip since early November and, due to a series of circumstances, the trip kept getting postponed. Our mission was to see the costume exhibit that ran through the middle of this month. After the build up I think we all concluded the exhibit was rather 'eh'. There were a few interesting pieces, my favorite was Luke's severed hand from The Empire Strikes Back, but many pieces were not originals, such as Indy's jacket from Last Crusade, and a couple of pieces I suspected were worn at Dragon Con. ;p But the museum was far more interesting that I thought it would be so I consider the trip worth it. Plus, there was a lot of fandom discussion in the car which is always nice. :) Unfortunately, I've been battling some strange rash since returning home Saturday night. It's not hives and it's pretty much located on my stomach and one arm. I didn't eat anything I hadn't eaten before and I have no cuts or scratches. Unfortunately, I can only take Benadryl before I go to bed because it knocks me out so whatever it is is not healing as fast as I hoped it would. Some TV shows are starting back up. I recorded Scrubs for later viewing and watched The Mentalist because The Pretty will always win out in live viewing. I felt tonight's episode actually made some sense. And I liked the team pulling together like it did. And then there was ( Leverage: The Stork Job )It occurred to me that while TNT is known as the Law & Order network, Tuesdays could be known as Christian Kane/David Boreanaz day. There's Angel from 6am to 8am, Bones at 6pm and 11pm, and Leverage at 10pm. Not that I'm complaining. ;) Tags: battlestar galactica s4, horatio_hornblower, leverage, the mentalist Current Mood: uncomfortable

One day I'm going to do a post of substance. Today is not that day. The good people at Mozilla have launched Firefox 3. I've only been playing around with it since last night, but I like subtle changes they've made. I did have to tweak my text settings because a few LJs and a some emails looked wonky. Zap2It has an AWESOME interview with Mary McDonnell. She not only discusses Laura, but talks at great length about Lee. If that alone didn't make me giddy (yes, I used the term giddy), I share the following quotes - "he's the one" and "I think she loves him." Alright, I'm taking the lines out of context, but let me enjoy the moment! No spoilers in the interview beyond 'Revelations'. As happy as Mary's interview made me, Mark Verheiden's Q&A with Comicmix.com made me happier. I haven't been proven right, but I haven't been proven wrong either! ;-) Again, no spoilers beyond 'Revelations'. The NBC Universal Store is selling posters of the 'Last Supper' photo, limited to a print run of 500. At a reasonable $15, I pre-ordered one. They won't ship until July 29th, but I have a feeling they'll sell out soon. And possibly related to BSG, sdwolfpup has declared July 3rd to be More Joy Day! Details can be found on her LJ here. Start planning people! :) Tags: battlestar galactica s4 Current Mood: giddy

I watched SciFi's Star Trek: The Next Generation mini marathon last night. Unlike last Monday's line up, these were all good episodes and one outstanding one, 'The Measure of a Man'. Not all ST:TNG holds up well, but that episode is a classic. It wasn't until Captain Phillipa Louvois's remark about Data that it hit me Ron Moore borrowed quite a bit from his old series. I'm not even certain if he was on staff in the second season, he didn't become a producer until 1991, but the influence of this episode on BSG is clear. Picard is fighting to prove that Data, a machine, is a sentient being with the same rights as humans. And arguing that Starfleet, by claiming Data as property, has the potential for creating a slave race. At the conclusion I was left with to wonder, what if? What if Picard had lost his case, Data was forced to be disassembled for study, and Starfleet created a whole army of Datas with the likelihood of them, eventually, turning on their masters. And watching all the episodes I got to not-so-fondly recall how much I hated Doctor Pulaski. If she wasn't acting as if she was smarter than everyone else, she was treating Data like he was nothing more than a walking computer. I was so thrilled when they dumped her and brought Doctor Crusher back. While watching ST:TNG I saw numerous promos for this week's mid season finale of BSG. Or, more precisely, I saw the same promo over and over and over again. It's similar to the one shown at the end of 'The Hub' with one noticeable difference. ( Cut for what some may consider a spoiler. )Prior to House, Hugh Laurie did a series over in England called Fortysomething. Has anyone reading this seen it? Is it funny? I ask, because Deep Discount is having one of their 20& off sales and I can get a really good price on the box set. But if it's crap, I don't want to waste the money. It's been a beautiful weekend here and how have I spent it? Not enjoying the weather or working on the million things I need to be working on, but either flat on my back or sitting in a chair. I don't know what exactly is wrong with me accept it's apparently some sort of inner ear infection that causes the room to spin or wobble anytime I try to stand up. Today is slightly better than yesterday because the motion induced nausea has subsided and I've been able to eat more than bread and crackers. The worst part is I had to go into work yesterday. I was actually OK sitting in the car and driving, it was just the walking to or from the car that was not easy. If anyone saw me they probably thought I was drunk. The most I've been able to accomplish this weekend is rewatching season 1 of Bones on Hulu - a site I am growing to love - and attempting to catch up on a backload of LJ comments. 'Sine Qua Non' may not have been the best episode, but it certainly has generated a lot of interesting discussion. I've even managed to sway pellucid to the dark side. ;) She's written about The Dynamic Character Development of Lee Adama. And she linked me to chaila43's thoughts on Bill Adama which turned into another discussion of Lee! Oh, I also had an additional 'Sine Qua Non' thought about Lee and Kara. Yes, Lee and Kara. Did I mention I was sick? ;p ( Cut for spoiler. )I am woefully behind on birthday wishes. It was a crazy week last week, personally, professionally, and fandomly (I think I just made up another word). As I mentioned to danceswithwords I could have posted a really bitchy post every day last week. But it was probably best to spare you (and me) the drama. So, let me take the opportunity now to say Happy belated/current/soon-to-be Birthday! to cathyteach2, divahag, writteninstars, 50mm, inloveiwthnight, and brynnmck. Phew! I hope I didn't miss anyone. And, ketzel, I know I still owe you that post! ;) Tags: battlestar galactica s4 Current Mood: sick

It's the end of the month, so I should be drowning in paperwork, but I'm not. ::waits to get bombarded with work:: This is one of those informational posts since my life is boring and I really don't have much to say. soundingsea brought this to my attention: In response to heat they're getting from the American Family Association, Proctor & Gamble is conducting a phone poll to see if people are for or against the Luke/Noah storyline on As The World Turns. Even if you don't watch the show, please consider taking a quick moment to support boy kissing and thwart homophobic bigotry. The poll is completely automated. You don't have to talk to anyone. And it really does take all of a second to register your opinion. Call 1-800-331-3774 to vote.I called last night. I'd love for P&G to be able to contact this group and tell them that people really don't care. The thing that kills me is soaps are known for having heterosexual, usually unmarried, couples rolling around naked in bed. I believe Passions went so far as to have an incest storyline. None of that is an issue, but two boys kissing is. Sigh. A few of my newer LJ friends have inquired about some of my older fanfic. Well, considering how long it's been since I wrote anything it's ALL old. :p As much as for their sake as my own, I did one of those future posts to have the links to all my fic in one convenient place. Since I forgot to check a box, it may have ended up on your lists the other night. All my fic can be found here. beccatoria and I were discussing 'Escape Velocity' over in her LJ (she's brilliant btw, you should really check out her posts ;) and she stated something that made me go, "D'Oh!" ( Spoilery if you have not yet seen the episode. )I seem to becoming quiet the Mark Verheiden fan. Comicmix.com has posted their latest Q&A with him. They were two answers in particular I found interesting (and one may interest you pellucid). ( Again, cut for 'Escape Velocity' spoilage. )And Mark talks about the writing process in his current blog entry. This one part really spoke to me: But I've always felt that writing in about communicating, too... presenting your ideas to others because you have this crazy idea there may be some value in your point of view. I suppose that's why I blog instead of scribbling this nonsense in a private journal. I kinda know what's scrambling around in my head; presenting it in a more public forum is the way I exorcise my pesky idea-demons...This is why I spend far two many hours writing meta for BSG or write Lee/Laura fic when I know there is a relatively small audience for it. It's the belief I'm contributing something to fandom. I know a lot of us cover the same territory when analyzing BSG, but we all seem to have that one thought that the rest of us missed somehow. And if we all just kept our thoughts to ourselves our experiences would not be as rich. It's also nice to have people go, 'OMG, you're crazy!', then find out there is a small group that shares your craziness. ;) Finally, Happy (belated) Birthday to dkellergrl, Happy Birthday! to thedeadlyhook and a (slightly early) Happy Birthday! to widget285! Hope all you lovely ladies had/have/will soon have great days. :) Tags: battlestar galactica s4 Current Mood: working
