The new TV season sneaked up on me and I'm already behind on posting about TV. I figured I better get Monday's thoughts posted (I didn't have anything but Flipping Out to watch last night and all I can say is Jeff Lewis is funnier than Jay Leno ;) before a glut of new TV tonight and tomorrow night and 'Damn You Joss Whedon for Making Me Watch Dollhouse' Friday night.

My plans to sit outside and enjoy some of the beautiful weather we are having have been thwarted by the biggest wasp or hornet - I can never tell them apart - I have ever seen. I'm not allergic to the stings, but an attack by something that size would hurt like hell.

I know people have sworn never to watch anything Ron Moore is involved with ever again, but for those like me who still think BSG was mostly awesome and that the finale was not the worst thing ever, the 'Virtuality' pilot will air July 4 on FOX. Yeah, I think the airdate is a strong indication FOX is not picking it up to be a weekly series.

BSG Season 4.5 Cover Art. Sam and Tigh made the cover! And I love the triangles they created. Hee.

While not official, it looks as if 'Castle' will be renewed.

Hulu has started to stream British series. It's slim pickings so far, by I was excited to see Stephen Fry's Kingdom on the site. Unfortunately, for me, they only have the first season up and I've seen it already. I would recommend checking out the show. I found it entertaining and it has a nice little mystery going on.

I watched the, for the moment, season finale of Scrubs last night. A very, very satisfying episode and I hope Bill Lawrence decides to pull the plug or ABC opts not to renew it. The series had a creative resurgence this year, ended on a high note, and, as I mentioned to [info]sdwolfpup, Scrubs without JD would be like The X-Files without Mulder. We all know how well that went.

I still haven't watched Caprica nor have I listened to the final BSG podcast. I had to admit to myself I'm on a break from the fandom. All the negativity, some of which I understood and some of which I didn't, finally got to me. But it may have turned out to be a good thing since I feel as if I had an epiphany about the finale. However, before I commit to anything I need to do a little rewatching.

And I still have three Dreamwidth accounts if anyone needs them, but I sense there are more floating around right now than there is need for.

OK, I'm five minutes into Bones and thinking, "WTF is up with this season???"

Last night was BSG/Caprica night at the Paley Festival. Either Caprica wasn't discussed much or the people who were there covering the panel are choosing to focus on BSG. For those not caught up on the series, beware of spoilers in the reporting.

The Futon Critic has partial recap of the panel with more to come later today. Ron made at least one comment that might upset some. I'll let you find it.

The Paley folks themselves tweeted the event. So you won't have to scroll through the tweets, I copied and pasted them under the cut. )

Details of the 'Battlestar' bonus material on the complete series DVD set. It sounds (and looks) like a repackaging of the DVD sets already released with a few additional featurettes. I'll pass (unless I upgrade to HD).

I enjoyed this week's episode of Castle more than last weeks. But two things irked me. One, ABC inexplicably airing the episodes out of order. Rick is describing his ex wife to Kate who Kate met last week. It makes no sense! And, two, the makeup, hair, and costume people's inability to make Stana Kanic to look good. Week in and week out she has the bizarre eye makeup and everytime they try to glam her up she ends up with fugly hair and unflattering dresses. The dress last night was pretty, but did nothing for her. I still adore the Rick/Alexis relationship. :)

Do you you love Oceans 11 and The Muppets? Than this vid is for you!

I had hoped to get back to a more frequent posting routine. That doesn't seem to be going well at the moment. Honestly, I don't have a lot to say about TV this week. I still haven't watched Law & Order: UK. But the April 6th episode will be the end of series 1 which means no new Jamie for awhile and no need for me to rush to catch up. While thirteen episodes have been filmed, ITV seem to be following in the tradition of U.S. cable outlets and splitting the series/season.

Brief (Really!) thoughts on a few other shows:

ER: And in the end... )

Chuck: The One with Tricia Helfer )

Castle: Hell Hath No Fury )

Life on Mars )

The Mentalist was just too cracktastic to even discuss this week.

Season 2 of 'Pushing Daisies' comes to DVD July 21st. And the final three episodes will air in the UK before the DVD's are even released here.

Anyone interested in rewatching Farscape? Then join [info]farscaperewatch! The rewatching commences this Sunday, April 5th.

There has been a lot of debate and discussion about the Battlestar Galactica finale. I was feeling a little overwhelmed by it all so I've been limiting myself to a couple of posts each day. One of the major topics of discussion at the moment is the role of women on BSG and the fates of those women. I had a bunch of links saved to share, but [info]siljamus has kindly collected them in her post here. Whether you agree with the posts or not, it's some thought provoking reading. Just as with the finale, I find myself somewhere in the middle of the debates.

I still need to listen to the final two podcasts, but I'm torn. Part of me wants to jump ahead to 'Daybreak', the other part of me, the more orderly part, feels I should listen in order which means 'Islanded in a Stream of Stars' comes next. So, I'm going to leave it to you all to decide.

It's been a week since my last post. Miss me? ;) I took a few days of LJ down time after BSG finale weekend. The sheer volume of discussion became draining. Though whether you loved or hated it, I find the discussion it's created fascinating. I still have few discussions bookmarked to catch up on. I'll probably do another post myself down the road after rewatching 'Daybreak' and, hopefully, after I'm able to make all the thoughts swimming in my head coherent to me. I have several contradicting feelings right now. I also have podcasts to listen to and a fic to begin.

I feel I need to mention the fic to motivate myself (or have you all motivate me) to start typing up the damn thing. [info]beccatoria has been my sounding board the last couple weeks. This is an idea I've had since 'Crossroads' (yes, that long). I was beating myself up for procrastinating on starting it, but now I believe the long wait has worked to my advantage. I've gone from fretting how I would deal with certain aspects of the story, and not knowing how or where to end it, to conceiving it as a revisionist version of Season 4. But it's also a little scary to go from what I conceived as just a Lee/Laura fic to something a little more gen.

I've also caught up on quite the backlog of TV this week.

Law & Order: UK - Unsafe and Buried )

Castle: Hedge Fund Homeboys )

Dollhouse: The One That Was Supposed to be Awesome )

TSCC: Today is the Day/The Last Voyage of the Jimmy Carter/To the Lighthouse )

Life: 5 Quarts )

I decided to give Kings another shot last Sunday after being lukewarm on the pilot. I did find myself enjoying it more, but it struck me one problem I'm having with the series is the actor who plays David. He's not terrible, but I don't find him particularly interesting and considering he's pivotal to the story that's an issue.

A couple of links:

Several days ago, Ron Moore responded to some questions posed by the fans at the SciFi Forum. I hear the thread has gotten rather long now, but I believe the pertinent stuff is only on the first three or four pages. If you are still rageful about the finale, you may not wish to read his thoughts. Even I found some of his answers frustrating. But apparently my interpretation of Lee's scenes was pretty dead on. ;)

And Jamie appeared on Sky 1's Soccer Am yesterday morning. He didn't talk about the finale and, oddly, the show played a clip from 'The Captain's Hand', but between the 4 and 5 minute mark he does take some shots at Dirk Benedict which I'm sure some of you will enjoy seeing. :) The direct link is HERE.

Yeah, I need icons mocking SciFi/SyFy and supporting Castle. If anyone sees anything, let me know! :)

SciFi seems to be testing the theory that there is no such thing as bad press. Has anyone seen a single positive report about SciFi's rebranding? The mocking seems to cover the media spectrume from blogs to entertainment sites to mainstream news organizations.

Cinematical feels we would be hard pressed to find a scheme more desperate, more clueless, or more laughable than Sci Fi Channel's new idea to fix what ain't broke. The article succinctly covers all the reasons why SciFi's decision makes NO SENSE. They actually saw their ratings and ad revenue grow in the fourth quarter.

Den of Geek has a hilarious piece unveiling SyFy's new lineup. I stopped laughing when I realized there was a high probability of a SciFi/SyFy exec seeing the list of shows and pitching them for next season.

I watched Castle last night and found it a much stronger episode than the premiere.

I have a list of stuff I've wanted to post about since Tuesday and now I'm looking at it and not feeling compelled to discuss half of it. So, I shall just cut to the TV thoughts since that is the one thing I have a compulsion to post about.

Castle: Flowers for Your Grave )

LOUK: Vice )

Life: Shelf Life )

In random entertainment news....

The podcast is still not up for 'Islanded in a Stream of Stars'. No word on why it's been delayed, but some posters at the SciFi Forum suspect that Ron may be finding it increasingly difficult to talk about the episodes because the episodes all tie in together at this point. I can buy that. And I would rather have him wait to discuss the episodes rather than listen to him talk about things other than the specific episode.

I've been reading various articles about Watchman and it's successes and failures as an adaption of the graphic novel. Every single article has criticized the WTF? use of music, especially the use of 'Hallelujah'. Hee.

Yesterday, I was looking at behind the scenes photos and video from the BSG TV Guide photoshoot and lamenting Jamie couldn't be part of it. Then it occurred to me that TV Guide had the oh so original idea to pair up the couples from the show - Mary and Eddie, James and Tricia. So, had Jamie been there we would have gotten photos of Jamie and Katee. At that moment of realization I felt a little bit of relief he wasn't there. Sorry, L/Kers, you can virtually throw things at me. ;p
