I'm sure many of you have heard about Amazon Fail. Amazon is apparently stripping the sales ranks from GLBT books, preventing them from showing up in bestseller lists and searches and, by extension, likely hurting their sales on the grounds that they are adult material. Many of the books contain no explicit sex, whereas many books with explicit heterosexual sex - still ranked! Apparently, you can also still buy a book that will teach you how to build a bomb. O_o meta_writer has a rundown of links detailing the fiasco. And rydra_wong tracked down Amazon's customer service phone number, 1-800-201-7575, and executive customer services e-mail, ecr@amazon.com. Additionally, the Twitter #amazonfail movement is underway. ETA: Oh, convenient, CNET News has been told it's just a glitch and being fixed.Speaking of Twitter, two things I learned today: - The use of # in tweets. ;) - Beware of going to the profile pages of people you don't know who are following you. There is apparently some sort of virus going around. I had two obvious spam accounts try to follow me today and thanks to some helpful individuals I learned you have the option to block people by clicking on Followers at the top right of the page. If anyone has an extra Dreamwidth code they are willing to share, I'd be most appreciative. I have no immediate plans to maintain two separate journals, but I'd like lay claim to my name and dink around with it a bit. Ever wonder if that packaged food you pushed to the back of the cupboard and forgot about is still any good? Check out StillTasty. I think they cover just about any item of food you can think of. I finally watched the Dead Like Me direct to DVD film today. Eh. I enjoyed the the scenes between George and Reggie, but found the rest disappointing. The new Daisy was as bad as I had heard. Though, I can't place all the blame with the actress. The character was nearly unrecognizable as written. I also caught the Doctor Who special. I think my interest in the series is waning. It all felt like a retread. I did like Christina and Michelle Ryan is a better actress than Bionic Woman led me to believe. ( Tiny, potentially spoilery question. )Back to work tomorrow. ::weeps:: Tags: doctor who

My dentist has a revolving door when it comes to hygienists. I've been seeing him for 25 years, but I've lost count of how many people have cleaned my teeth. So, today, there was another new one. Very nice woman and thorough, to the extreme. Yes, my gums hurt right now. I treated myself to a post cleaning hot chocolate from Starbuck's, a tradition I started a couple cleanings ago. The warmth helps, though not sufficiently this time. I have now moved on to cinnamon tea which is quite delicious. I'll be eating something soft for dinner. I'm thinking brownies. ;-) Now, let's see if I manage to remember everything I've wanted to post over the past few days, but got sidetracked from doing so. A few Galactica related tidbits:The SciFi HD channel was acting wonky Friday night so I didn't have a chance to see this past weeks ep in HD until Sunday. I've seen people speculate Mary McDonnell has had work. Well, judging by the HD, she hasn't. OK, maybe she's had a bit of collagen around her mouth, but the woman has definitely not gone under a knife. The podcasts are still not up. Ron gave them to you last weekend SciFi! I loved that there were so many divergent opinions on 'The Ties That Bind' and that even when not at it's best, it can still generate a lot of terrific discussion. Highlander - Hulu has the first season of the series up and after seeing a pretty great Duncan/Methos vid at bitchinparty (Yes, I will post about that one of these days!) I thought I'd give the series a rewatch. I don't know if TV has gotten better, my tastes more refined, or it's because I never paid close attention the first time around, but OMG, IS THIS BAD. Granted, it probably got better in subsequent seasons with the introduction of a stable of reoccurring characters and the whole Watchers arc, but I've had to try and stifle laughter at my desk at work on several occasions now. The dialogue, the acting (Joan Jett as a Nineteenth Century French aristocrat? REALLY???)...so, so bad. And they never explain how Conner goes from being the last Immortal to another quickening taking place. ( Cut for spoiler if you haven't seen the series, but plan to someday. )Torchwood - I watched the finale and it wasn't terrible. (Sorry beccatoria!) Granted, I think some twists the writers pulled out of their asses and I still feel John Barrowman struggles with the serious drama, but I expected far worse. Doctor Who - I've seen the first two episode of Season, well, I'm calling it 4 and am liking Donna A LOT. ( Cut for more specifics )Io9.com got it's hands on casting sides for 'Dollhouse'. I'm going to be a curmudgeon and say I'm still not sold on this. :p Since FOX has finally officially renewed The Sarah Conner Chronicles, today a read my first TSCC fic! marenfic's Stranger Things: You Are Not Alone. John/Cameron/Derek (though not all at the same time because incest is BAD), PG-13, and written for the TSCC Flash Fiction and Art Challenge. I'm going to read some more of the fic when I have time. I feel I can commit to becoming invested in the series now. And the WTF?! for the day... Miley Cyrus is writing her memoirs.Tags: bsg, doctor who, tscc Current Mood: accomplished

It was a lovely day here today, yet I spent almost all of it indoors on my computer. There is cleaning that needs to be done. And laundry. But it was worth blowing off everything else because it was a joy to get caught up on comments on my Lee Adama post. I’ve loved talking about Lee (and Laura by extension ;) and having people make me think even more about the characters and series. Not that my love for the show ever went away, but having this kind of discussion has made me so anxious for April. It would seem sunpotted had a birthday. HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY! I hope it wasn’t too snarky or bitter for you. ;-) I finally watched the Doctor Who Christmas special this afternoon. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a lot. Kylie Minogue, who I knew little about as an actress, impressed me. And while I felt the underlying story was weak, the characters were well developed. ( A few spoilery remarks… )I’ve noticed that FNL chatter has gotten a lot quieter as the season has progressed. I’m not giving up on the show, but I’ve definitely gone from thinking it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen to, well, it’s better than a lot of crap on the air. I don’t know which is worse that the show no longer knows how to include all it’s cast members in an episode or that it is resorting to ‘TV moments’. This weeks WTF managed to turn into another WTF moment. Sigh. I’ve been going round and round as to how to address this past Friday’s Stargate: Atlantis. I’m not one who wants to squash anyone else’s squee and I don’t want my waste my time writing up a negative review, especially when it seems that danceswithwords and I seem to have reached a decision to give up and watch DVDs on Fridays until BSG returns. But then it came to me, via Gateworld. A promo pic for the forthcoming Stargate: Continuum. I’ll let Sam, Cam, and Daniel’s expression sum up how I feel: ( Not spoilery, but cut to save space on your Flist page. )And in the spirit of wanting to show how awesome SGA could be, I highly recommend going to jescaflowne’s LJ and downloading her vid ‘Another Sunday’. Why is it I end up watching at least part of The Ten Commandments every year? It was definitely more impressive when I was a kid...and we didn't have cable. For it's time, it must have pretty spectacular in terms of effects and grandeur, but, good grief, the dialogue! And the acting! Gorgeous day here today. I'm thinking we'll have another week of this before it hits 90. :p And I braved the grocery store. Going the day before Easter is not a good idea, but I needed food and tomorrow will be just as bad with all the really last minute shoppers. I did have one interesting moment when a teenage girl and her mother passed me. The girl was discussing a falling out with a friend and, apparently, didn't know it had gotten to the point they were no longer friends until the friend had defriended her journal. Hee! I know we all talk about defriending, but it was the first time I hearD it talked about in casual conversation in public. It was an odd experience. I have to say I was also impressed because with all the horror stories you are hear about teens and sites such as My Space, here was a mother who obviously knew what her daughter was doing online and a daughter who felt comfortable talking with her mother about it. Now, before I get to the new 'Who' (Series 2 or Season 28 - take your pick!) I figured I'd share a few thoughts on last nights airing on Sci-Fi. ( Dalek )Tags: doctor who Current Mood: excited

I’m thinking Ioan Gruffudd could soon rival the six degrees of Kevin Bacon - at least in my world of TV and movie viewing. After viewing Daniel Deronda, I decided to look up the lead, Hugh Dancy, on Imdb. I had recently seen a promo on HBO for the upcoming Elizabeth I, starring Helen Mirren, and caught a glimpse of an actor who looked like this Hugh fella. Sure enough, he plays the Earl of Essex. What then caught my attention was that, amongst his credits, he played Galahad in King Arthur. OK, I just saw that movie again on TV recently and am hard pressed to picture him in it. Of course, I also paid no attention to the sickly guy who tried to off himself in ‘The Duchess on the Devil’ either. ;) My point in all of this is is here I am watching ‘Deronda’ for Jamie, who is acting opposite Hugh, who would later be in ‘Arthur’ with Ioan, who Jamie starred in ‘Hornblower’ with. Then I think about Ioan working on a film with David Duchovny (another actor I like, shut up). It’s all connected….which makes me think of Buffy….and I’ll stop now. ( As for the film ‘Daniel Deronda’ )And speaking of BSG (If you’re saying ‘No you aren’t’ then you didn’t click on the cut did you? :p), Ms carrielee informs me that James Callis is coming to Dragon*Con! Of course, he said that last year and we know what happened. I’ll forgive him if he actually shows…and brings Jamie. I was looking at the Sci-Fi site earlier and I noticed that there is a new podcast up. Which struck me as odd since the season is over. It turns out they taped a writers meeting back in July of 2005. I listened to the first couple minutes and the good news is they talk about the back ten so no spoilers unless you haven’t seen all of season 2. The bad news is I only listened to a couple minutes and can’t report on how aggravating Ron may be. ;) The BSG Hiatus Laura-and-Lee Fixathon: Sign-Ups have begun over at laura_lee_bsg. I mentioned this awhile ago, but let me reiterate, it’s not just for Lee/Laura fans it’s for Lee *and* Laura fans. I quote from the post, </i>The Laura-and-Lee Fixathon is open to shippers as well as folks who like their relationship the gen way, and contributions include stories, graphics and vids. Like a secret gift exchange ficathon-type-thing-only-with-more-than-j ust-fic-on-offer, see?</i> I have many talented people on my Flist who I’d love to see contribute and I’d hate to think you’re not doing so because you fear having to make them swap spit or other bodily fluids ;p. Heck, brynnmck is signed up and she’s a Lee/Kara shipper! Come on people, join the fun! And please don’t forget I know where some of you live. =) I also volunteered to be a backup instigator, Mod, whatever for this. Come see me go mad with power! Hmmmm, what else? Oh, there was ‘Doctor Who’ tonight. ( Some thoughts on ‘The Unquiet Dead’ )Tags: battlestar galactica s2, doctor who Current Mood: tired
