As many of you know, I am not a Dollhouse fan. I tried, really. I've liked all of Joss's other TV series, but with Dollhouse I had too many issues with the concept and casting and I gave up. I even declared I would never watch again.....unless Jamie Bamber made a guest appearance. Very funny, Joss. Since I had to watch another episode, I tried to go in with an open mind. Maybe the writing got better. Maybe the themes were less sketchy. Maybe Eliza took acting lessons over the summer. But fifteen minutes in, I realized all the old issues I had were still there. So, if you love the show, you may want to skip what I have to say. If you love Jamie Bamber and/or Amy Acker, you may wish to read what I have to say. And if you are going to try and convince me why I should love the show, please don't waste your time. ( Dollhouse: Vows )Tags: dollhouse Current Mood: groggy

Thursdays are so much more relaxing when you don't have to go to work. I'm taking a long weekend, but not as long as I anticipated since I will likely have to go into work on Sunday. Today I got very little accomplished. I had a blood draw for my physical next week. I think I managed to scare the lab tech. If you are a petite person and state you haven't eaten in over 15 hours it seems to concern some people. I had to fast for 12 hours, is three more that big a deal? Then I went to my mom's since I had a conversation with her earlier in the week in which she said, "Maybe you could find the time to come over and pick up this candy I bought for you" to which I translated to "I haven't seen you in FOREVER". We talked for about six hours and I somehow managed to recap the BSG finale. No, she's never seen the show. Yes, she agrees with me Adama is an ass. :) Then it was home to watch TV. I didn't watch the first episode of The Office or the premiere of Parks & Recreation. To be honest, I feel I've given The Office plenty of chances to make me love it as much as I know some of you reading this do, but I'm not feeling the love. Or even the like some weeks. And P&R just looks like an inferior copy of the show that inspired it. Instead, I watched Bones. I'm still trying to figure out why the hell they've reset Bones to her Season 1 personality. I find it very irritating. I did watch the second episode of The Office. ( Tiny spoiler )30 Rock was very funny. I approve of any and all shots taken at Apple. Southland: * Ben Mackenzie (he's apparently dropped the jamin) in a uniform is hot. Sadly, he received very little character development in the pilot so I can only comment on the hotness. * The first guy Ben arrests is played by the actor who played Oliver on The O.C.. Hee! * Ben's partner, John, seemed constructed of stock cop cliches. The detectives struck me as more interesting. * OMG, C Thomas Howell has aged badly! I checked imdb and he's only six years older than I am, yet he looks like he could be my father. Apparently, there was Dollhouse DRAMA today. The Televisionary has a good recap of what is really going on here. Kristin at E! has much of the same information, but for Prison Break fans there is an interesting comment posted to the thread, comment 16. Apparently, as with Dollhouse, PB filmed episodes for the studio that FOX has no plans to air. And in more weird network TV news, TV Guide posted this interesting tidbit about 'Life's chances for a third season: NBC's 'Life' wrapped up its sophomore run with an audience of 4.5 mil, plunging 19 percent. Will 'Life' go on? Although it might seem unlikely, there is talk of struggling NBC picking up "mini" seasons of a few on-the-bubble series. Stay tuned.Tags: dollhouse, life, tv_musings Current Mood: hungry

First of all, thanks to all for the birthday wishes and sweet_ali for the cupcake. ;) I'd love to report I had an exciting weekend, but that would be a lie. I actually didn't leave my apartment. Yesterday was bad weather coupled with a bad mood and today was largely spent dinking around with bamber_news. I finally completed a new banner, which I was excited about. What I was less excited about and very frustrated by was having to deal with coding. I'm going to have to get brave one of these days and experiment with a new style. Today was not to be that day. I also made scalloped potatoes and ham using a new recipe. Overall, it was a success. I cut the potatoes a little too thin and liquid boiled over the edge of the dish so now I get to clean the oven, but I've had bigger disasters. I also made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Yum. I get a treat at work tomorrow which my coworker forgot she was supposed to make until I casually mentioned on the phone I had made a dessert tonight. There was some freaking out after that. I wouldn't be upset if we waited another day, but you don't know some of the people I work with. The Oscars! Let me start by saying, not enough Hugh. The opening number was rather cheesy, but he and Anne Hathaway were adorable together. I also had no idea her voice was that good! The rest of the show was OK. Nothing made me cringe. Some segments worked better than others. Tina Fey and Steve Martin were hilarious, but it took me a minute to realize Ben Stiller was mocking Joaquin Phoenix. The group performance of the best original songs was a mess. Peter Gabriel made the right call not to participate. No WTF? dresses, though leopard print is not Whoopi's friend. Speeches ranged from funny to touching. Overall, I'd probably give it a thumbs up. I felt the show tried to bring back old Hollywood and it seemed one of the classier and more sophisticated productions of recent memory. I forgot to post earlier about the other two shows I watched on Friday. Dollhouse: Stick a fork in me, I'm done. I might catch the eps on Hulu, but, honestly, I don't want to support Joss at all on this one. There's just too much I find repulsive about the show. If episode six is a major turning point, let me know, I'll consider giving it another try. ( The Sarah Connor Chronicles )Tags: dollhouse, hugh_jackman, tscc Current Mood: groggy

I realized Friday it was going to be impossible to post meta and discuss three shows over the weekend. It's too much! Luckily, Dollhouse has me only worried about posting about two shows now. ;) To be fair, it wasn’t as bad as I feared, but it wasn’t very good either. I was bored. The premise is murky and I failed to understand turning to people with implanted personalities for help when actual experienced and qualified people are available. But the big problem is the show’s star. As part of an ensemble, Eliza would probably be OK, she did a good job as Faith, but the girl can not carry a series. She doesn’t have the talent or, imho, the charisma to do it. And, Joss, I know you are a fan of BSG, but please don’t continue hitting us over the head with references to the show. I didn’t like ‘Unfinished Business’ the first time and the shout out to Edward James Olmos was weird. You want to make the BSG fans happy? Give Tahmoh a bigger and better written part. ( TSCC: The Good Wound )This morning, I discovered two cars in the parking lot of my apartment complex had their windows smashed. I’m assuming the car owners were dumb enough to leave something valuable in the cars. They were also dumb not to kick up a fuss about the light being out in their half of the carport for the past several months. Fortunately, my car was untouched. I guess the ice scraper and box of kleenex in plain site wasn’t very tempting. I left a message with on the complex's answering machine about what I found. I’m sure the car owners will be complaining tomorrow. And I tried to do my civic duty and call the police. After they transferred me to what I am sure was the wrong station, the person I spoke to told me the car owners had to call. Whatever. I tried. Thank you to the anonymous person who gifted me with a heart! :) And I’m sure there was something else I wanted to mention, but it’s escaping me. Tags: dollhouse, tscc Current Mood: uncomfortable

Jonathan Frakes talks about directing tonight's episode of 'Leverage'. And he cast some of his Trek buddies in guest starring roles. No spoilers beyond casting and the general plot. I've been reading various articles on Dollhouse. The Good: TV Squad's interview with Tahmoh Penekitt. Only Tahmoh and his enthusiasm is likely to make me stick around assuming this is as bad as I fear. The Bad: TV Addict talks to Eliza Dushku. Not only do I find her a mediocre actress who isn't able to carry a show, she doesn't come across as the best spokesperson either. The Ugly: The LA Times Blog recaps a conference call with Joss. Eliza, apart from being, in my opinion, as great a star as I have ever known, has a genuinely powerful and electric and luminous quality that I've rarely seen.Uh, really? And about the show's premise: The premise of the show involves these men and women being hired, and obviously some of that has to do with sex. This is something that was in the premise from the start...I think some things will offend some people, some things will not. There are things in it that I'm not positive I support, and some of the things that bother me don't bother any of the other writers, and that's something that I've been a little bit afraid of, but I haven't shied away from ... The idea of this show was never to play it safe ... I may have crossed the line. Let's find out.Call me crazy, if the creator the show is bothered by elements of it can't he change them? Finally, Newarama.com recaps the 'Dollhouse' panel at NY Comic Con. Gee, considering Tahmoh was joining Joss on the panel, it would have been nice if they had showed some clips of him in the show. And on a BSG note, I love that after Jamie informed him that he was swiping his flight suit, Tahmoh decided to take his. :) And a very Happy Birthday! to danceswithwords. I hope work isn't kicking your ass today and that you find time to celebrate. Just don't celebrate on Friday, I'll need you! Tags: dollhouse, leverage Current Mood: working
