At the rate I'm doing these I should be done in October! With the exception of one photo I HAD to share, this report will be photo free. I bought a new camera before DC and I didn’t figure out the settings until Saturday. So unless you enjoy blurry photos or bright blobs there is not much to see from Friday. I don’t have many complaints about DC, but I wish that they would start the con earlier on Friday. I have no problem with panels not beginning until 1:00pm, especially if people don’t arrive until Friday morning and need to register, but why not open the dealer rooms and Walk of Fame at 10 or 11:00am? Maybe in years past this didn’t make sense with most people not arriving until Friday, but given the long registration line on Thursday and the number of guests I saw wandering about the Marriott that evening it seems they could open the con up a bit more on Friday. Maybe they will next year. They do seem willing to make changes given they expanded the con to four hotels this year. So my little group largely did nothing until the afternoon. If I recall correctly, molly_may and thomasina75 attended 1:00pm panels while the rest of us headed for our second line of the con to see the boys of Firefly. ( The Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion Show. )( Friday’s BSG Panel )I’m going to be lumping the three Stargate panels I saw (Friday, Saturday, and Monday) together. This is largely due to the fact I didn’t record these panels which was largely due to my presumption they would not be worth recording due to the panel moderation and I was largely right. For 2009 I’m contemplating funding a coup to overthrow the current track director. Or at least send a sternly worded email to the DC folks. The track director may be a very nice woman, but she is a horrible organizer and moderator. I think I spent half of Friday’s panel with my head in my hands. ( More ‘Stargate’ Ramblings. )After the panels, I think we may have wandered a bit before danceswithwords abandoned us to go have dinner with her brother and his fiancé. Some people’s priorities! ;p I got an invite to meet some of the Bamber Bunnies at a nearby pub and with thomasina75, 50mm, and sugargroupie in tow, since it had been some time since we had all eaten, headed to the pub around nine. I spoke to bamberrific and xbeyondinsanex at some length about (who else?) Jamie and briefly met Kittenbiscuits and Sylverviper. There were a bunch of other Bunnies present, but most were immersed in con related conversations and I ended up eating with my friends and, as happens at cons, I didn’t get to mingle as much as I would have liked. Still, it was fun to meet everyone. :) danceswithwords eventually rejoined us and, for the life of me, I can’t recall what we did next. More to follow at some point... It seems after cons I have mini realizations about things. I've seen numerous posts from people suffering from some form of con crud. I was a sufferer last year, brought on by stress and exhaustion and I'm seeing people grappling with both, pushing themselves in various ways. I made sure not to be stressed by work prior to DC - my new motto is "Not my problem!" . And while I admit suffering from exhaustion, in so small part because of going back to work on Tuesday (thanks to a late Labor Day next year, I can take Tuesday off and, yes, I've already scheduled time off for next year ;), I've made sure to take it easy. So while you may (or may not) be dying for con reports, I'm not staying up until the wee hours to post. I've always been a bit obsessed with getting my thoughts out there asap, but to have it affect my health is crazy. It's the same reason I quit staying up until 3am to post my BSG episode analysis. I will reiterate I had a fabulous time this year. Even better than last year. I know what you are thinking, "Wait, but Jamie was there last year!" True. And while I would have loved to have seen him, I didn't feel compelled to spend hours in every BSG line so I could have seats in the first few rows, or stand in lines to talk to him, or try to find a convenient time to interview him and missing out on time with friends because of it. And as danceswithwords pointed out in her first DC post it's friends that make the experience so fabulous. I believe it was, 50mm who was amused by a conversation danceswithwords and I were having regarding Buffy, a show she has not yet seen. Just in case she might watch it someday, DWW and I tried to avoid spoiling her. So our discussion was something along the lines of "the thing that so and so did because of the other thing and it resulted in that thing happening". And we TOTALLY understood what we were referring to. That's the best part of DC, sharing your common fandom experiences and knowledge and realizing you've become so close to people because of it that you now have this short hand for communicating. It's also a place where you can be having dinner and talking about BSG while Richard Hatch sits at the table next to you...surrounded by his entourage...one of which was going to later learn they "could no longer be part of the group". And that was not one of the odder moments of the weekend. ( Thursday: The First Line and a Record Number of Celebrity Sitings...But No Kevin Sorbo! )The new fall season has begun! I still have Prison Break to watch, though I've read various reviews so I'm completely spoiled. Tonight, I watched Sons of Anarchy, which I'm not sure about yet so I shall give it another try next week, and Bones. ( Cut for 'Bones' thoughts. )Tags: dragon con 2008, tv_musings Current Mood: tired

Dragon Con is now only three days away. Why am I NOT freaking out? I'm far too relaxed. Maybe it will hit me Wednesday night. Though I'm planning on starting packing tomorrow. Which means I should go check to see if anything needs to go in the wash. And I better catch up on some stuff before I go... Rumor has it that Nathan Fillion's pilot, 'Castle', will be picked up by ABC.Jewel Staite talks about the end of 'Stargate: Atlantis' on her MySpace page. But what jumped out at me was this: I’ll be taking the red eye to Atlanta for Dragon*Con Friday night, since I’ll be filming during the day, and I may have last night’s make-up on and a giant latte in my clutches, but I’ll get there somehow! More of a real blog when I return, complete with new pics from D*C.Everyone tell her how great she looks! It turns out I know someone who just signed a deal with MGM! I don't know if anyone recalls my dealings with Howard Webster, photographer and co-founder of 'Factory Magazine', after I inadvertently committed a little copyright infringement by posting some photos of Jamie. Oops. Howard turned out to be a remarkably understanding guy. :) This year he launched the digital graphic novel, 'The Many Worlds of Jonas Moore' and MGM is looking to possibly turn it into a series. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news. And Howard was nice enough to send me the press release, but, unfortunately, the press release is copy protected and I can't figure out a way to repost it. :/ I finally got around to watching one of last summers blockbusters, Transformers. The film was...not bad. Not awesome, but I expected far worse. ( What I liked and what I didn't about the film. )I still haven't seen Ths Dark Knight and it won't be happening this weekend. ;) And a bunch of people had birthdays ( beccatoria, addictedtogoo, nolivingman, gobi_rex, and keswindhover), are having birthdays ( romanticalgirl), or will be having birthdays ( sweet_ali, greycoupon, and sdwolfpup) - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALL! If I missed anyone, sorry! Tags: dragon con 2008, jonas moore, movie_recaps, sga Current Mood: busy

Well, it wouldn't be Dragon Con if plans started going out the window a week before. The two big news items today were the posting of the Pocket Program and the announcement that NBC won't allow the 'Heroes' cast to do any panels. No details as to why NBC has made this decision, but I won't be shocked to see Hayden cancel now. Other possible points of interest: Edward James Olmos is only appearing at the Friday and Saturday BSG panels. He is doing a Bladerunner panel on Sunday and a solo panel on Monday. Tahmoh is not appearing at the BSG panel on Sunday since he has a Dollhouse panel that morning. The one panel a day rule still seems to be in effect, at least for the bigger names. However, Science Guy, Kevin Grazier, is scheduled to appear at eleven panels and has been added to a couple of the BSG talks. The Whedonverse panel Monday afternoon with Nathan, Alan, and James Marsters has been scrapped. Phew! Actually, I noticed that many of the bigger names are not scheduled for any panels on Monday. It looks like people are only doing a three day weekend. Alan Tudyk is nowhere on the schedule, but I seem to recall that this was all finalized this weekend and sent to the printer. Rooms will be cleared between panels. James Marsters and Nathan Fillion are seated near each other on the Walk of Fame. :/ Kevin Sorbo is no where near the BSG cast. :D And an updated list of panels with molly_may and thomasina75 in mind. ;-) Friday 1:00 - 2:00 An Hour in the Buffyverse: James Marsters - Hyatt Centennial II-III 1:00 - 2:00 Lance Henriksen - Hyatt International South 2:30 - 3:30 Trek Trak with George Takai - Sheraton A-F 2:30 - 3:30 Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk - Regency IV-V 4:00 - 5:00 Trek Trak with Avery Brooks & Michael Dorn - Sheraton A-F 4:00 - 5:00 BSG: Callis, Hatch, Douglas, Penikett, Hogan and Olmos - Marriott Atrium 5:30 - 6:30 Stargate Guests Mega Panel: Simon, Avari, Bridges, Nykel, Higginson, Sun Francks - Marriott Atrium 5:30 - 6:30 Farscape: Hey, Edgley, and Franklin - Hyatt International South 7:00 - 8:00 Trek Trak with Robert Picardo - Sheraton Savannah 8:30 - 9:30 Stargate Actors - Sneak Peeks & Short Film: Colin Cunnigham, 'Sanctuary' preview - Baker 8:30, 10, 11:30 The Buffy Horror Picture Show - Sheraton A-C Saturday 11:30 - 12:30 James Marsters - Valdosta(?) 1:00 - 2:00 Stargate Megapanel: Higginson, Picardo, Sun Francks, Simon, and Bridges - Marriott Atrium 2:30 - 3:30 Dean Haglund - Marriott M106-M107 4:00 - 5:00 Farscape: Gigi Edgley, David Franklin, and Virginia Hey - Hyatt Centennial I 4:00 - 5:00 DS9: Brooks, Dorn, and Cirroc Lofton - Marriott Atrium 5:30 - 6:30 BSG: Callis, Hatch, Douglas, Penikett, Sackhoff, Hogan, and Olmos - Marriott Atrium 5:30 - 6:30 Firefly: Fillion, Staite and Bacarrin - Hyatt Centennial II-III 5:30 - 6:30 Aliens Remembered: Henricksen and Carrie Henn - Hyatt Internarional North 10:00 - 12:00 BSG Colonial Fleet Party - Sheraton Capital Ballroom (main floor) 10:00 - 12:00 Mighty Fine Shindig - Sheraton A-C Sunday 10:00 - 11:00 Welcome to the Dollhouse: Tahmoh Penikett - Marriott A601-A602 11:30 - 12:30 Bladerunner: Edward James Olmos - Regency IV-V 11:30 - 12:30 Trek Trak with Takei and Walter Koenig - Sheraton Savannah 11:30 - 12:30 Smallville: Morris, Rosenbaum, and James Marsters - Marriott Atrium 1:00 - 2:00 BSG: Callis, Hatch, Douglas, and Hogan - Marriott Atrium 2:30 - 3:30 Firefly: Fillion, Staite and Bacarrin - Marriott Atrium 5:30 - 6:30 Tribute to Don S Davis: Picardo, Bridges, Cunnighman, Julie Caitlin Brown - Hyatt Centennial II-III 5:30 - 6:30 Dean Haglund Improv - Hyatt Regency V Monday 10:00 - 11:00 Edward James Olmos - Centennial II-III 10:00 - 11:00 Stargate Guests Megapanel: Simon, Baccarin, Staite, Sun Francks, Higginson, Avari, & Bridges - Marriott Atrium 11:30 - 12:30 BSG: Callis, Hatch, Douglas, Penikett, Grazier and Hogan - Marriott Atrium 11:30 - 12:30 DS9: Lofton and Dorn - Sheraton A-F 1:00 - 2:00 ST Voyager: Tim Russ and Robert Picardo - Sheraton A-F 1:00 - 2:00 Dean Haglund - Marriott M106-M107 ETA: The Colonial Fleet party has moved to a different ballroom at the Sheraton.Tags: dragon con 2008 Current Mood: tired

So, the other day, when Nathan Fillion was announced as a guest at DC, I thought, 'Gee, it would be awesome if Alan Tudyk was added too!' OMG ALAN TUDYK HAS BEEN ADDED!!!::DIES:: In other DC news, greycoupon has found, not the complete schedule, but a spreedsheet of the schedule. Edward James Olmos has a panel Monday morning. And I think Tahmoh's solo panel has been moved. ::off to do more research:: ETA: I just saw this over at the Whedonverse Track LJ: The Friday 2:30 PM "Hour in the Firefly Verse" Q & A has been changed to a Nathan Fillion only event. The time slot will remain the same but the location will be different. This will take place in the International South Ballroom in the Hyatt. Morena, Jewel, and Nathan will all be together on Saturday and Sunday's Q & A sessions. Please make a note of this schedule change.I wonder of this will get changed again with the addition of Alan? ETA 2: Grrr Argh. Now the BSG panel and the 'Firefly' panels on Saturday are both at 2:30! :( And the final Wheadonverse panel on Monday is at 2:30 with Nathan, Tahmoh, and James Marsters scheduled. My flight leaves sometime around 5:30. Maybe I could at least catch half the panel. Nathan and Tahmoh together! Or maybe this will get changed/moved with Alan now on board. ::crosses fingers:: Tags: dragon con 2008 Current Mood: ecstatic

And my planning is going out the window! Well, in so far as I may have to change priorities. Nathan "Captain Tightpants" Fillion has been added to the list of guests! Which means the Firefly panels which I was iffy on now rank behind the BSG panels. Sorry Stargate. On Saturday and Sunday the Firefly panels immediately follow the BSG panels so it would be awesome if DC opted not to clear the room. Wanna bet that won't happen? :/ Other guest changes of note... If you haven't heard, Katee Sackhoff has canceled. My assumption is she has been cast in something that conflicts with the con. The American SciFi track updated their schedule on Wednesday, the day she canceled. While I can understand they posted the schedule before they got word, I noticed Michael Hogan hasn't been added to any of the panels, though Jamie and Leah had been dropped. And Rainbow Sun Francks (SGA) has been added as a guest. Another poor bastard from the Stargate universe. ;) Something that is bringing me great joy, The Clone Wars has an embarrassing 19% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. You have to at least read the blurbs from the critics. It's tough to say which I appreciate more, seeing the critics do what fans have been doing for years, turning on George for destroying a once great franchise out of greed or condemning the once cutting edge ILM for putting out a badly animated film. I've been watching the Olympics off and on this week. Or should I say The Michael Phelps Show? Let me make it clear, I like Michael Phelps. In addition to being a talented swimmer, he seems like a nice guy who, while aware of the records on the line, still seems very much the team player. So when I say I'm sick of seeing and hearing about Michael Phelps, it's nothing he's done, it's what the media has done. Matt Lauer actually enraged me Friday morning as he interviewed Ryan Lotche. After a few brief questions to Ryan about winning his first ever solo gold medal, he had to ask Ryan about Michael. Specifically, how would he have felt if he had beaten Michael in the 200m breaststroke and ruined his chances for eight gold medals? And how would he have dealt with the anger of people in the United States upon returning home? WTF?!?! HOW is he supposed to answer those kinds of questions? Then, last night during one of the womens finals, NBC chose to replay part of Micheal's latest victory. I'll be watching tonight to see if Dara Torres wins the gold in the 50m freestyle, but I think I'm pretty much done after that. Continuing the trend of years past to be a control freak ;p, I've worked up a Dragon Con schedule. I'm sure it will change between now and the con. If you take a look at the long list of panels it includes fandoms I'm not part of. I figured I'd include some panels I thought might be of interest to anyone going looking at this post. The Galactica panels are my priority with Stargate being the next fandom of interest. I definitely would like to see at least one of the Heroes panels, but not all four. The rest? Who knows? Things of note: Adam Baldwin canceled, again. I've looked at enough con schedules over the past couple years to see a tendency on Adam's part to sign up for a lot of cons and appearing at very few. That's not a slam, just an observation. I'm sure this cancellation was due to filming on Chuck. The X-Files track schedule is *still* not up. Sorry, thomasina75, I was thinking of you! ;) There are panels at night this year. It's a sign of how big DC has gotten. Another sign is that panels are being held at the Marriott, Hyatt, and Sheraton. Fortunately, most of what I'm interested in is at the Marriott, but I can forsee a lot of running between hotels for people. And how far away is the Sheraton? When I first looked at panels, I noticed a few people were scheduled for more than one panel a day which I thought was a no-no at DC. James Marsters schedule has been adjusted so he is only doing one a day, but George Takai is scheduled for two within a half hour of each other at two different hotels on Friday. I'm wondering if adjustments will still be made and the different tracks haven't communicated very well. Torri Higginson has just been added! That could be interesting. And if you are attending DC, feel free to leave a comment and maybe we can meet up at some point. :) Assuming my flights don't get fraked up I'll be arriving early Thursday evening and leaving late Monday afternoon. I know, I was probably one a long ago, but as I was watching the G4 networks live coverage of Comic Con tonight I felt as if I crossed the point of no return. :p The highlight of their coverage was seeing Hugh Jackman who looks OMG SO GORGEOUS! Not that he was an eyesore before, but he just looked particularly fabulous. I was shocked o discover he was at Comic Con and so, apparently, were the people at Comic Con. He was a surprise guest at a panel this morning. Even though X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not due out until May 2009, he was there with some footage. Here's a pretty good recap of what footage was shown.New Line is developing a sequel to 'Hairspray'. I just hope they can get the original cast back together. I'm glad you all convinced me to post my Dr. Horrible thoughts, I've been enjoying the discussion. And people agreeing with me. ;) Track schedules are starting to pop up for Dragon Con. It looks like we'll be spared a BSG vs Trek panel. Woo! I hear the American Sci Fi Track schedule is going to be tweaked (EJO was missing from the BSG panels and Jamie may have to cancel due to 'L&O: London' filming) and I'm waiting on some others, but expect me to be posting schedules in the coming weeks. I know you all can't wait for that. ;p I baked banana blueberry cheesecake bread tonight. Yes, I did make the recipe up! Now, I think I shall go see if I baked it long enough. Thanks to greycoupon for the heads up. Now, EJO is a great speaker and I'm sure he will have awesome stories to tell, but my first two thoughts were..."OMG, and we thought the lines were insane to get into a panel last year!" and "the autograph room will be a zoo as people will want merchandise signed by all the actors." Last year we had Jamie, Aaron, Mark, and, of course, Richard. This year it's Eddie, Jamie, Katee, Aaron, Tahmoh, James, and Richard. And, at this point, I'm not ruling out Mary making an appearance. Of course, people could yet drop out, knowing my luck, probably Jamie :p, but, if not, this is going to be the largest collection of BSG actors outside a Creation Con. It's going to be crazy. Though I am very thankful, outside of Katee, these people are not repped by Julie Caitlin Brown. Phew! Beau Bridges was also listed as a guest today. danceswithwords, try to control yourself. ;) In other news, I saw Mamma Mia this afternoon. I had a few issues with Donna (Meryl Streep) in the early part of the film, but once the film (and I) got past those, it was very enjoyable. It was great escapist entertainment. I wouldn't rank it quite as high as Hairspray which I adore, but it is one of the better movie musicals of late. And I was quite impressed with the singing of people not known for their singing. :) It was also great to see a movie being carried by actors over 50 who haven't felt compelled to butcher their faces by plastic surgery. These people looked fabulous, especially Meryl and Pierce. :) In TV news, I enjoyed the second episode of Burn Notice more than I did the season premiere. Much more Tricia, who, call me crazy, looked more stunning than she does on BSG. Maybe it was all the natural light? Or that she got to smile. :) And I really enjoyed ( cut for plot spoiler... ) I was underwhelmed by the season premiere of Psych. It's possible some work frustration on my mind lessened my enjoyment, but I also think there was too much hype and focus on the big guest star of the week. There are others things I know I wanted to mention, but they seem to be escaping me at the moment. Tags: dragon con 2008, tv_musings Current Mood: anxious

It seems that BSG has been getting a lot of media attention recently and we can add 30 Rock to the list tonight. See subject line. :) That was probably the highlight of the episode for me. I was sort of underwhelmed by the show this evening. I have two things that will make danceswithwords very happy. First, I watched an entire episode of The Office tonight, without being pressured too and, yes, I thought it was funny. Specifically, Pam and Jim's expressions had me cracking up. My embarrassment issues did have me covering my eyes a couple of times though. The other thing that should make her happy is that I was looking at the Dragon*Con site and noticed her boyfriend is now listed as a guest. ;) Looks like BSG, DS9 (Cirroc Lofton has been added) and Stargate are the shows DC is targeting this year. And after giving myself a pretty bad headache this afternoon (don't ask, it's a long, complicated story), I came home and decide to fool around with LJ tutorials and html code to see if I could make an improvement over at bamber_news. Logic would dictate this would not be the ideal time to fool around with something I have little knowledge of and that could lead to a tremendous amount of frustration. However, if you manage to figure it out all on your own....WOO! As Stewie would say on Family Guy, Victory is Mine! I have tomorrow off and I'm contemplating caving and watching BSG online at Noon. It's been raining pretty heavily here all day and tomorrow there is a good chance of high winds and thunderstorms and I'm completely paranoid I'm going to lose power tomorrow night, especially since I lost power last week and we didn't even have any storms! Set those DVRs - Tahmoh and Grace are to appear on the Today show tomorrow morning and Tricia is suppose to be on The Tonight Show tomorrow night. Dragon*Con GuestsBelieve it or not, I'm not jumping up and down on the couch over this. DC is months off, he's one of two for scheduled appearances there, and I can come up with several reasons as to why he may have to cancel. In other words, I'll believe it when I see him. ;) Btw, if anyone wonders why so many BSG actors have signed, but no Katee, it's because she has a different con manager then the rest. Apparently, most, if not all, are repped by Erin Grey (yes, THAT Erin Grey) and Katee is repped by Julie Caitlin Brown. ETA: I don't know if I missed this earlier, but I now see Jewel Staite has been added. Tags: dragon con 2008 Current Mood: pleased

I've been bitching about Mitt Romney (AKA Mr. Hey! I Can Buy An Election!) since he entered the race, specifically for his changing his stance on any given topic depending on who was in the room with him. Even today, he couldn't bow out of the race without declaring his support for the war in Iraq. But that pales in comparison with what was apparently an attempt to scare by paralleling the U.S. with France, trying to blame pornography for the downfall of the American family, and the insistence that kids can only grow up well if there is a father in the home. Now I'm thinking Huckabee's crazy was just more obvious. petzipellopingo found the full transcript of his speech courtesy of Newsweek. Also at Newsweek.com is 'Burying Mitt', a nice little analysis of what went wrong with his campaign (or right depending on your POV ;). In other happy news, Dragon*Con is starting to book guests. Thus far representing Battlestar Galactica is Leah Cairns, Tahmoh Penikett, and, of course, Richard Hatch. For Farscape we have the usual suspects of Gigi Edgley, David Franklin, and Virginia Hey. And, yes, he's back so that means dear friends you may need to restrain me from making a scene...Kevin Sorbo returns. Sigh. Tags: dragon con 2008 Current Mood: relieved
