I'm still not sick, but am suffering from some sort of post con extreme exhaustion, hence my long delayed second post. So, without further adieu..... ( Why I Now Hate Paul Campbell )Speaking of the Quadrangle of Doom, ddt73 posted the extended cut of the Lee/Kara scene from 'Taking a Break...' that was included in the BluRay box set. There is some interesting discussion on the scene in comments on ddt73's post as well as in comments on taragel's post. Of course, as a Lee fan and as someone who doesn't ship Lee and Kara, I have a different take on the scene. ;) ( Cut for My Thoughts. )No promises on when my next DC post will be, but I foresee one more BSG related post, followed by thoughts on 'Buffy', 'Trek', 'Stargate', and 'Farscape' because I actually do have other interests! ;) Tags: dragon con 2009 Current Mood: hungry

Yeah, I'm already behind on posting highlights from the con. Thus far, I've managed to avoid full blown illness, but I do feel exhausted so I'm trying to rest as much as possible. I have no plans this weekend so, hopefully, I can catch up on a lot of stuff. Including laundry. But, I did want to make a public service announcement. Rooms are available for DragonCon 2010! At least if you want to stay at the Hyatt, Hilton, or Sheraton. The Marriott will not open reservations until October 1. This has been confirmed by DC and quite a few people who asked as they were checking out of the Marriott. I just reserved as a room at the Hyatt as a Plan B using this link. No code is necessary since it's a site set up specifically for DC reservations. If you click on the link for a four night stay, you may get a message stating no rooms are available. If you go back and click on the link for a three night stay, you can put in the dates you want and it will let you reserve a room, though the cost is a few dollars more per night. I don't get it either. The Hilton's site is here and the code you'll need is DGC. The Hilton will charge you for one night's stay immediately. This is the main reason I made the Hyatt my Plan B. I didn't look at the Sheraton's site. I'm lazy and don't want to walking two blocks to panels. Most of the above I gathered from dragonconrooms which is a great source for information. Also, the Daily Dragon on Twitter first alerted me to rooms being made available for next years convention. Tags: dragon con 2009 Current Mood: tired

I'm back from DragonCon. I've been back almost 24 hours, but this the first time today I felt like I could sit at the computer and post. I don't think I've developed a full blown illness, but I was sick both Friday and Monday at the con and have felt exhausted all day. So while I feel better at the moment, I thought I would attempt making a post. As with every DC I attend, there were highs, there were lows, and there was various success in getting to see people. I hung out most of the weekend with danceswithwords, thmoasina75, molly_may, 50mm, and sugargroupie. I did manage to have a lovely conversation with frolicndetour as well as catch up with nicole_anell, sebaceanbabe, greycoupon and rebelliousrose. And I got to meet emmiere, cujoy, and nnaylime as well as a friend of Nnaylime whose LJ name escapes me. Sadly, I missed meeting up with wisteria_, though I caught glimpses of her at the BSG panels and taragel. I've been thinking about how to do posts this year. Do to illness and other things I did practically no posting after the last two dragon cons. It an era of YouTube it seems silly to spend hours typing up detailed recaps when the panels will soon be online. (The Nimoy/Shatner panel and one Stargate panel are already posted in their entirety.) Plus, after seeing four BSG panels, the information starts blurring together. So, I'm opting to do a series of shorter 'highlight' posts. I'll also post some photos, after I download and edit them, since I feel I got some good shots. Today's post I think may be the most popular and led frolicndetour to say, "You are posting this to LJ, right?" ;) ( Mary McDonnell is even more awesome them we thought (spoilers for 'Daybreak'). )Tomorrow's DC Post: 'Why I Now Hate Paul Campbell' Tags: dragon con 2009 Current Mood: pleased

American SciFi Media tweeted after DC posted the full schedule, "Please keep in mind that the Panelists are not accurate they had to be put in early. I'll be sending out the rest of the schedules today." How early? Other tracks have been updating their schedules frequently and DC's schedule seems to match those found individually on the various track sites. ASFM's guest list has been inaccurate for months and their last schedule updated was bare bones. Unless Ben and Claudia defect from the Farscape panels to Stargate panels, I'll assume MY schedule is pretty much set. I have no plans to attend any X-Files or Torchwood panels, but as I was perusing the tracks I thought there might be someone reading this who would be interested. And I threw in the Michael Biehn panel for you, molly_may. ;) Bolded you'll most likely find me there if you are looking for me; italics you might find there. ( Schedule )Oddly, William Shatner is only doing a panel on Friday. Mary McDonnell is only scheduled for Friday through Sunday and Claudia Black Saturday through Monday. Ben Browder looks to be around all weekend and he's the only guest I really want to make sure I get an autograph from. Of course, that probably means I have to jump through Julie Caitlin Brown's hoops. :/ Because I can't pass up the opportunity to mock, check out James Marsters site for details on his private party/concert. You need to scroll about half way down the page. I love the half hour window of opportunity to secure your "reservation". And I wonder how much of this "cash only" event is being reported to the IRS? Welcome to the first of a series of spammy posts on Dragon Con. Yes, planning has begun. I've had the hotel reserved since October and have reconfirmed the reservation and added everyone who needed to be added to said reservation. Last night I booked my flights. Direct flights both ways! (Woo!) And I got one of the last two coach seats on both flights! (Phew!) The only negative is my flight on Monday doesn't leave until 8:00, but it actually gets in sooner than if I had taken an earlier flight with a layover. My roomies flights are two to three hours earlier and my plan is to goo with them to the airport so I can spend as much time as possible with them. If anyone else will be hanging around late at the airport, let me know. Schedules are beginning to be posted. ::rubs hands together:: And even though I know these schedules will change (and the Stargate track doesn't have anything up yet), of course, I've started to plan where I'll be. ( Cut for very tentative schedule )Random Stuff.... Stargate people, get cracking on that schedule! Michael Shanks and, by extension, Lexa Doig have cancelled. Leonard Nimoy is doing a second panel as part of the Main Trak, but, alas, no schedule. Dirk Benedict is appearing as part of the American SciFi Classics Track which means we'll be spared having to see him with the current cast. I bet he and Hatch are doing a panel together though. The track doesn't have a schedule up yet. I like that the Trek Trak is choosing to do a lot of solo talks with their guests (or maybe the guests mandated it). Gareth David Lloyd will be a guest, but he has not been assigned to any panels yet. If I wasn't so busy with other fandoms, I wouldn't mind seeing one of his Q&A's. It should be entertaining. ;) Is there an X Track this year? Do they have any guests? There's an aquarium night September 5th. Is this new? If anyone is interested, it's selling out fast. The last time I updated was June 7th. This may be a record for me. I'm trying to put my finger on why I'm not posting. Is my life that boring? Well, yes, it is, but that's nothing new. There's no new Battlestar to discuss, which has always been a prominent feature of my LJ. But, I still have Caprica to watch and a podcast to listen to and some half formed meta. I do feel Twitter is partially to blame. I never thought Twitter and I would be a fit. I'm so wordy! And only 140 characters? It's inconceivable! Apparently, I'm more adaptable than I thought. I did start a post on Monday, but the topic of said post has had me on a YouTube and downloading binge since the weekend, sucking up most of my free time, and thus I haven't gotten around to finishing my thoughts. And this renewed passion of mine deals with something I haven't thought much about in twenty years and probably all of two people will care what I have to say on the subject. If anyone can guess what I'm talking about from that incredibly vague description there's a virtual cookie in it for you. (Accept for beccatoria, who is already privy to my insanity. ;) In order to dip my tow back in the meta waters, I have a few thoughts about Virtuality. frolicndetour has a great discussion going on on her LJ about my main problem with the pilot. ( Cut for spoilers. )For my fellow Farscape fans, in case you haven't heard, the rumored Farscape panel at Comic Con is a go! Ben, Claudia, Brian Henson, and Rockne will be there. I was curious as to why there might be a panel since there is currently no series and the webisodes are still in development. Well, soon after the panel announcement came news of the entire series being released on DVD! Thank you A&E Home Entertainment! Speaking of cons, Dragon Con is only 64 days away! It seems like it was just October and I was making my room reservation...which I reconfirmed yesterday. I'm already seeing posts about get togethers. I'd love to meet up with whoever I can, though logistics can be a nightmare when dealing with four host hotels and 40,000 people. I'll be arriving Thursday and leaving Monday and you should be able to find me standing in lines for Star Trek, Stargate, and BSG panels. And for those interested in how the most recent Star Trek film changed from script to screen, check out Star Trek - What You Missed Most of the cuts I agree with, but I really would have liked to see more of Nero's backstory. His missing scenes would have helped to explain a lot. Tags: bsg, dragon con 2009, farscape, tv_musings Current Mood: apathetic

I'm really hoping the big shocking twist in next week's House finale is that House has been in a coma the last few weeks and everything that has happened has been in his head. Otherwise, nothing I've seen on my screen makes any sense. And could the writers, after five years, do a tiny bit of research and realize that people who have to live with chronic, debilitating pain need pain medication and are not all drug addicts? The only reason I'm still hanging in (barely) is Hugh Laurie's consistently excellent work and feeling as if Chase and Cameron are actually part of the show again. NBC had their "Infront" presentation today. How that differs from their "Upfront" I'm still trying to figure out. Maybe this is infront of the Upfront during which they will actually reveal a schedule? We didn't learn much today. Chuck remains on the bubble and it's fate seems to lie with it's studio and what kind of deal they are willing to cut with NBC. Same may hold true for Medium and Law & Order. It doesn't seem Life was mentioned until after the presentation when someone asked about it's chances and was told, "Oh, it's not coming back." So, yeah, Life, as suspected, is done. :/ I watched the extended promos for NBC's new series airing this fall. My reactions were as follows... 100 Questions: A 'Coupling' ripoff, but I did laugh at a couple of jokes. And remember Elliot's poor bastard of a boyfriend on 'Scrubs', Keith? Well, Keith's portrayer gets to play another poor bastard of a boyfriend here. Community: Chevy Chase stars in this as does the guy from 'Talk Soup'. I didn't laugh once. Not to mention, I could see people who attend community college taking some offense. Day One: I've read the producers of 'Jericho' may have cause to sue. The promo consisted of clips of the filming of stunt sequences and green screen work. I don't know why NBC bothered. Parenthood: Good cast and it's a Ron Howard/Brian Grazer production, but I saw the film and didn't see anything to get excited about. Trauma: ER/Third Watch/Rescue Me hybrid. Anastasia Griffith (Jamie Bamber's sister for those who don't know) stars and Peter Berg is a producer so I'll probably give this a shot. Mercy: Snarky nurses who know more than the doctors bond with each other while hitting on every cute guy they see and dealing with their own personal dramas (one nurse served in Iraq). If that wasn't bad enough, Michelle Trachtenberg stars, and still looks about 14. I'll pass. In other news, I checked the Dragon Con guest list (as I do every day :) and Karen Allen has been added. I'm sure I'll end up with a conflict, but her panels have the potential to be interesting. I wonder if she'll trash George at all? One can hope. danceswithwords, you're going to love one of Rick's comments on Castle tonight. ;-) ( And one spoiler from the episode. )Tags: dragon con 2009, house
