Three day weekends go by way too fast. Overall it was restful, but I feel like there was so much I should have gotten done and didn't...as usual. My friend (the same one I went to see Pirates with - that will be important later) and I went to see Waitress this afternoon. Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion were OMG SO CUTE! together and there was much kissing which is always a good thing. Both really helped to carry a film that, in essence, didn't have much of a story to tell. However, I appreciated that the script which could have veered off into quirkiness or sap felt very grounded in reality. And the supporting players all did an excellent job of playing very flawed, yet very likable characters. Well, accept for Jenna's (Keri) husband who was meant to be hated. Jeremy Sisto seems to excel at disturbed, angry characters. After the movie we met my friend's hubby for lunch. Poor guy. He got to spend a good chunk of time listening to us ramble on about all the problems with Pirates:AWE. Yes, two days later we still felt the need to vent our frustration and disappointment. When she stopped and asked me if I thought Spiderman 3 was a better film, after thinking about it a moment, I had to say, on some levels, yes. Because some people don't wish to have a big deal made out of their birthdays, I shall express a very small Happy (belated) Birthday! to cathyteach2, no_detective, and divahag. I'm several weeks behind on the brouhaha and most of you fanfic writers or aficionados have probably already heard about FanLib, but in case you haven't let me link to a few links on why we all should be wary of this endeavor. icarusancalion posts a recap on the genesis of FanLib with many links. stewardess whips up a brief FAQ. telesilla provides another useful FAQ. angiepen breaks down FanLib's TOS and the problems with it. And check out metafandom for new discussion on the subject. I'm not providing a direct link to FanLib since every time someone visits the site it helps them look good. Personally, the big problem I have is over ownership. What it comes down to is that if, on some off chance some studio or TV exec comes across your story and thinks it's brilliant FanLib can sell it and profit from it leaving you with nothing. On the other hand, if some exec screams copyright infringement and unleashes a pack of bored attorneys to deal with the matter guess who is left to defend themselves? Yep, the writer, because according to FanLib it's now your work and you posted it and they wash their hands of it. Yeah, I think I'll stick to LJ. Oh, anyone watching Kingdom with Stephen Fry? I stumbled across it, decided to give it a try (because of Stephen Fry), and am enjoying it a lot. I don't know if I should hope for a second series or that they bring him back on Bones. Title: ImpulseSpoilers: Only up to 'Black Market' Rating: NC-17 Many, many thanks to: My most excellent beta, k_julia, who makes me look good and worked around my crazy schedule these past couple weeks. beccatoria for when I was on the verge of flailing helped give me an idea. And she's never had porn dedicated to her before. ;) Finally, brynnmck, sdwolfpup, and danceswithwords who instead of watching a certain Mountie helped hash out, um, plot points with me. Brynn, I even think I used one of your lines. ;) Feedback: Yes, please! Especially if you spot any pronoun troubles. :) ( Impulse )Tags: battlestar fic, fic, lee/helo fic Current Mood: exhausted

I'm being Ms Anti-Social at the moment. Today is Day 1 of Moving Day at work. My department's new space is finally complete and we can begin lugging our crap down the hall. Unfortunately, we are also expected to do our normal work. Anyway, one of my co-workers convinced our boss to spring for lunch for us. While the rest of my group is sitting around our new/used conference room table, I'm sitting at my desk eating and posting. I'd rather catch up with all of you. :) First off, because I didn't forget, just didn't find a moment to post, HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!!! to onlyoot. Sorry to read your were under the weather. I hope you can have a proper celebration this weekend. :) And I whined to talked with a few of you about my recent fic writing struggles, ( but things seem to be back on track )And some brief thoughts on various TV shows... ( House )( Friday Night Lights )( Ugly Betty )( Scrubs )I'd talk about this week's SG-1, but I apparently picked the torrent from Hell. :/ Tags: fic, ficathon, tv_musings, ugly betty Current Mood: busy

Geez, it's the lunch hour, I'm trying to eat my lunch while talking on the phone with my mom and someone on their cellphone decides not to notice that I'm on the phone talking and attempts to ask a work related question. This is only one small incident amongst many that I've had to put up with in the past several weeks. The only good thing that's happened recently is my department recieved new 19" flat screen monitors yesterday. It was a necessity after a system upgrade and the fact that the old monitors were too small to allow us to properly view the programs. The downside of this is that when I'm writing in Word or surfing the net, you'd have to be blind not to see what I'm doing. Yet, I still do it. ;) I wrote 500 words of a Hornblower fic this morning. I decide to start what I've been mulling over in my head for the past several weeks, get past my fear, and commit something, anything, to the screen. And, I have to say, I think it's a decent start. So much so I wanted to keep writing (I have it all pretty much mapped out in my head), but I had to stop myself. Stoopid job. And I still need to complete the Lee/Laura epic. I say epic because I somehow managed to cross the 8,000 word mark. Eep! I'm actually quite satisfied with the fic and working with k_julia's comments is going pretty smoothly. With previous fics there always seemed to be a point where I'd get frustrated because I wasn't seeing something or felt I was struggling with my own limitations, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. I also remind myself there is a lot of bad fic out there. ;) Now if I only could find time to finish the darn thing. ( Brief thoughts on 'Heroes' )Tags: fic, heroes Current Mood: bitchy

I only got about three hours sleep last night. And it's all k_julia's fault! She demanded porn fan fiction (which, to be fair, I did sort of promise to get to her this weekend) and the tweaking I was going to do turned into some significant rewrites and pretty soon my Midnight cut off became 3am. But a draft was finished, as finished a first draft as I've ever done, and was sent off to her and it doesn't suck! Not that I thought it did, but I tried some different things with this story and it took me weeks to get Lee and Laura naked so I was a little concerned how it would all read. Now I am on to actual tweaking, adding some relatively small things here and there. I can't begin to say how invaluable a second pair of eyes are to a story because there never fails to be something obvious I missed because I'm so close to the work. Speaking of BSG, sort of, Comcast On Demand has the perview scene up for this weeks ep. For anyone who watched the online only content after 'Torn' aired it's an extension of the scene that Sci-Fi put up. I have to make one non-spoilery comment - the command situation continues to confuse me. ( A few brief thoughts on 'Heroes: Nothing to Hide' )Now off to sleep (sorry, Julia) because the sleep deprivation and Advil have gotten the best of me. Tags: fic, heroes Current Mood: exhausted
