I'm being Ms Anti-Social at the moment. Today is Day 1 of Moving Day at work. My department's new space is finally complete and we can begin lugging our crap down the hall. Unfortunately, we are also expected to do our normal work. Anyway, one of my co-workers convinced our boss to spring for lunch for us. While the rest of my group is sitting around our new/used conference room table, I'm sitting at my desk eating and posting. I'd rather catch up with all of you. :)

First off, because I didn't forget, just didn't find a moment to post, HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!!! to [info]onlyoot. Sorry to read your were under the weather. I hope you can have a proper celebration this weekend. :)

And I whined to talked with a few of you about my recent fic writing struggles, but things seem to be back on track )

And some brief thoughts on various TV shows...

House )

Friday Night Lights )

Ugly Betty )

Scrubs )

I'd talk about this week's SG-1, but I apparently picked the torrent from Hell. :/

Thanks to [info]greycoupon, I am aware that Sci-Fi has the first act of the season premiere up for viewing.

I'm not doing any analysis at this point because it's hard to put these scenes in context without the rest of the episode. I definitely liked what I saw. Everything seemed very true to the characters.

I also watched Mary McDonnell's interview on the Today show. OMG is she gorgeous! And she was wearing an outfit I'd kill for. The only outfit she had since the airline lost her suitcase. Now, I'm willing to try and upload this if someone hasn't already done so, but I have one problem. I copied the video from my DVR to a disc and while I can play the disc fine on my laptop I can't seem to copy the video from the DVD to upload. Any suggestions?

And now I must point you all in the direction of the master list for Why Can't We Be Friends Ficathon. Thus far I have only read [info]romanticalgirl's fics she wrote for me. And, yes, fics, the woman write four based on my prompts - two Lee and Helo and two Archie and William. It's an embarrassment of riches! Shortly after reading those I had to scoot for an appointment with the eye doctor which meant having my eyes dilated and not being able to read anything. My vision is returning to normal so I can start checking out the other fics. Many great pairings. Go read!

I also think I figured out my LJ notification problem. Somehow lj_notify ended up on my blocked senders list. Sigh. Sorry if anyone felt I was ignoring them.

Title: Certainty
Spoilers: Only through ‘Lay Down Your Burdens’
Rating: PG (bordering on G – so unlike me)
Pairing: Ellen Tigh and Tom Zarek
Background This was written for [info]nyuszi for the The Why Can't We Be Friends Ficathon. The only prompt given was the pairing. I chose this particular twosome after seeing Kate Vernon at Dragon*Con. She made me want to try my hand at writing Ellen Tigh. Thanks as always to my wonderful beta [info]k_julia who scramble to help get this thing postable.

Certainty )

Now I need an Ellen/Zarek icon to go with this. ;)

You might think I’m up late, but I don’t have to go to work tomorrow. Wheee!!! Of course the reason I get to play hooky is that I have to sit in a waiting room while my mother has some tests done. Before anyone thinks this is a big deal, it’s not. It’s regularly scheduled testing for people over a certain age. I’ll say no more without getting into icky details.

The really disturbing part of this? My mother asked if I was bringing my laptop with me. I guess I DO need help.

Truth is I’ve spent almost the entire day on the couch glued to my computer. Nothing like waiting to do your ficathon request until a week before it’s due! But a draft is done. :) Now I just need my beta to tell me which parts suck. That’s not me being negative on myself. I’m actually quite pleased with aspects of it. In fact I feel a little too confidant and that I’m setting myself up for a fall.

I also was checking out scenes from various BSG episodes today for other fic ideas. And I came to three conclusions, mostly while watching ‘Bastille Day’:

* OMG! How can they not see the possibility of Lee/Laura?!

* That Lee Adama could become Tom Zarek.

* I have theory as to why the changes in Lee physically and emotionally make perfect sense. But before I commit to anything I need to see some of season 3 and if Ron and I are on the same page. ;)

In other TV viewing…

I had thoughts on this last weeks House. Big, somewhat profound thoughts, but I never got around to watching the episode again in order to solidify them. Since the series seems to be on a kick of tying episodes together, I’m hoping that will afford me the opportunity to address my thoughts this coming week .

So who watched Smith? I’d read mixed reviews on this one, but I tried it and really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t put it on the Must See list yet, but it has potential. I’m a little concerned about Simon Baker’s sociopath wearing thin fast, but maybe they’ll tone it down a notch or ten in future episodes. And Virginia Madsen’s character I find very intriguing. She knows something, but is she the type of woman willing to sacrifice a few morals to be the woman who seemingly has it all?

Tonight I turned on Brothers & Sisters. The show has had bad buzz for months. Producers (such as Marti Noxon) walking over “creative differences”. Actors fired. The pilot reshot. But, hey, it has Ken Olin working behind the scenes and one of the best casts assembled in front of the camera. It can’t be that bad, right?

I felt like turning the channel after five minutes. I decided that wasn’t giving it a fair chance. I waited until the ten minute mark to flip over to Without a Trace. It’s THAT bad. In Entertainment Weekly someone talked about how they had to streamline the pilot because there was just too much information in it. Um, in the first ten minutes we were introduced to the entire family (including a clichéd gay son whose clichés were apparently OK because they pointed them out to you!) and all their conflicts, neurosis, relationship troubles, drug habits, and whining. No need to fire up the DVR Sunday nights.

I still haven't watched the extended cut of 'Pegasus'. What kind of fan am I? Maybe tomorrow.

ETA: I just watched Six Degrees of Separation. (Why, yes, DVRs are cool. ;) Not as bad as I feared, but there's one WTF? plot line and the meetups stretch credibility. I like the cast for the most part though. I may give it another try, but I have a hunch it won't be around too long.

First off, I rarely ever watch Inside the Actors Studio. It would be a great show if not for the host and his stupid questions. But tonight Robert Downey Jr was on and I was intrigued by the possibility of seeing an hour with a clean and sober Robert. I think I smiled throughout the entire interview simply because he was healthy and happy and honest about his colorful past. God I hope this sticks because he's so talented and working consistantly again. I'm sure this will be repeated, if you're a fan, check it out.

On Friday [info]brynnmck announced the Why Can't We Be Friends Ficathon. An idea born on the road somewhere between Seattle and Vancouver which I have agreed to co-mod. Yes, I am insane in case you haven't already noticed. Anyway, I have many talented writers on my Flist and I encourage you to cough up 500 words or else I'll... please sign up. Porn's great, but sometimes characters just need to talk. If you have two favorite characters who you don't wish to imagine having sex, here's your chance to have that happen. 'Core' fandoms are listed, but you also get wildcard options. So if you've dreamnt about Helo and Angel sitting down to talk about the perils of having otherworldly children now's the time to ask. And if you don't feel you can contribute, please spread the word. The more people we have sign up the more likely I am to get my Lee and Helo fic. :) Comments are being screened so we can protect fandom from how crazy we all are for the time being.

And, finally, my friend S and I got talking about bad movies today, more specifically, the worst film we own on DVD. We had quite the debate with her assuring me she has far more bad films than I do. I brought up Ghost Rig and spending a week downloading season 1 of Ultimate Force. But I had to admit defeat when she brought up her love of Ice Pirates and how excited she was when it finally came out on DVD. The point of me stating all this is I thought it might be fun to ask what is the worst movie you own? The one you are almost embarassed to admit having, but, dammit, you like it or at least had a damn good reason for buying it. I perused my DVDs again this evening and I have to say, it looks like Ghost Rig remains the winner for me. ;-)
