I was going to save my lovely new icon for sdwolfpup's More Joy Day, but it brings me such joy I couldn't wait. :) And before anyone cries spoiler (I wish!), it's a behind the scenes photo from the book given to the cast and crew at the end of shooting. The full picture (I cropped out a few people) can be found here at the SciFi forum as well as Jamie's contribution to the world of poetry. I watched 'The BSG: Ten Things You Need to Know Special' which, as usual with these specials, was almost a total waste of time. One bit of information did stand out for me. ( Cut for those who haven't seen 'Revelations' yet. )I also caught up on ( Friday Night Lights: Underdogs )My To Do List for the weekend: * Finish Season 3 and half of Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica - I actually managed to get through six episodes. * Write up Season 3 thoughts* Work on stuff for More Joy Day* Catch up on the backlog on the DVR* Go through auction catalog * Finish betaing fic* Reply to comments The fic I beta'd was beccatoria's awesome BSG AU fic from 'The Hub', The Body is a Myth. It's epic. It involves nearly all the characters on the series. It deals with life, death, rebirth and the cycle of time. It's even a teeny tiny bit shippy. And it's one of the most ambitious, complex, and thought provoking fics I've read. I actually wanted to mention some aspects of her fic in my episode recaps, but I didn't want to steal her thunder. ;) So, go read! Oh, and good news/bad news. The good news is think I figured out what the mystery rash is - Keratosis Pliaris - and it's the result of really dry skin. The bad news is there is nothing much I can do for it accept moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize until it clears up. Tags: battlestar galactica s4.5, bsg, friday night lights

Between it being a crazy week and me seeming to be going through posting lethargy, it just occurred to me it's been about a week since my last post. I did have some TV thoughts and hopefully I can recall what they were. ( House: Joy to the World )I watched Law & Order: SVU to see Michael Trucco's guest turn as a serial rapist. I was really impressed by his performance and saw the sleaze he was playing rather than Sam Anders. But I was a little distracted by all the high collared shirts they had him wear to cover the scar on his neck. ( Leverage: The Homecoming Job )( Friday Night Lights: The Giving Tree )( The Office: Morrocan Christmas )( I watched the first BSG webisode and... )TV Guide interviewed Jane Espenson about the webisodes. Surprisingly, she does give away a spoiler. The Battlestar auction print catalog is now for sale. It's limited to a run of 5,000. I'm number 113. :) And I'm not going to backtrack where I saw it, but Bryan Fuller has revealed that the thirteenth and final episode of Pushing Daisies will no longer end with a cliffhanger. In post-production they've added on a new beginning and ending and, according to him, the ending should be satisfying. OK, when did the Monday after Thanksgiving become Cyber Monday? Did I miss a memo? Can we quit naming days people! I’m behind in posting about Friday Night Lights and since there will be another new episode Wednesday, I thought I better catch up. ( Every Rose Has It’s Thorn )( It Ain’t Easy Being JD McCoy )( Keeping Up Appearances )( New York, New York )And segueing from FNL to Wolverine, Cinematical has the first picture of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit.I don't recall if we had an exact date, but the BSG webisodes will launch on December 12th. ( Source: Mo Ryan at the Tribune) TV Squad asks, "What's Your Favorite Christmas Special?" Which made me curious as to what you all love to see this time of year. It will probably be of very little surprise to you that my favorite special is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. ;) I also usually view Miracle on 34th Street (the original, not the craptacular remake) at least once and, though not strictly a holiday movie, Love, Actually. Because the economy sucks and waiting for November 4th is making me anxious, I've decided to do a post of only positive things. Well, and thoughts about Life. ;) Work Related StuffI did my first art related project in a long time. Someone at my firm has a nine year old dressing as Slash for a party. When I first heard this I thought, "How can one dress as slash?". Then I realized she meant the guitarist. Anyway, he wanted a barbed wire tatooish design drawn on a tee shirt. She was referred to me when the person she usually goes to for her graphics needs couldn't do it based on religious grounds. He's a Jehovah's Witness. Shockingly, markers I hadn't used since college still worked and though I never studied graphic design, my concept didn't turn out too bad. I wouldn't accept payment, but I got a tin of caramel corn and a thank you from a very happy kid. My boss paid me the rare compliment this week. After reviewing a huge ass stack of credit card statements I had just paid and thanking me for letting him do so he added, "By the way, you're good." To which I replied, "Yeah, I know." :) VacationI have a vacation coming up! I'm flying to San Francisco on November 5th and danceswithwords and I will be embarking on a road trip. She'll be driving down the coast (I can't drive a stick shift and I'm sure she's grown attached to her transmission) and we'll be spending three fun filled days in Burbank with Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and, oh, friends), followed by a day in San Simeon to see Hearst Castle, then back to San Francisco so I can fly home on November 12th. I think this may be the longest I've vacationed with anyone. Be on alert for stories of unidentified bodies along the PCH. Television( Pushing Daisies )( Friday Night Lights: Goodbye, Hello )( Life: Did You Feel That? )Battlestar GalacticaI've been threatening to do it for a long time, but I finally began my Battlestar Galactica rewatch. I told myself I wasn't going to take any notes (that lasted fifteen minutes) or talk about it here (again, didn't last), but it's apparently become a compulsion that I talk about this show. ( Random thoughts and observations about the mini series ) brokenmnemonic attended Michael Hogan's panel at the Fan Expo in England this weekend. There were a couple of interesting comments Michael made about the just wrapped BSG movie, The Plan. I'm recapping the points that jumped out at me in B's post. ( General information about 'The Plan'. )Mo Ryan has more information on Mary McDonnell's November 13th debut on 'Grey's Anatomy'. Damn, I'll have to start watching that show. Mo also broke the news on Katee's appearance on 'Law & Order'. But this is the part of the article that really got me excited: The “Battlestar” cast diaspora continues: Of the many actors from the show to line up new gigs, among the most notable are Mary McDonnell (“Battlestar’s” Laura Roslin), who starts her “Grey’s Anatomy” gig Nov. 13 and Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama), who will don a badge of his own as a cop on the upcoming British series “Law & Order: UK.”Jamie's new gig is notable! Woo! Mark Verheiden confirms 'Galactica' is coming to Blu Ray: Next week I'll be doing an on-camera interview for the BSG Season 4 Blu-Ray release... no idea when the discs are due out (hopefully around the release date of the regular DVDs, which right now are scheduled for early Jan. 2009) but I suppose that means BSG is definitely coming to Blu-Ray. Thank goodness I invested in an HD-disc player just before that format went belly up...The price of the machines has dropped and there will probably be deals around the holidays and after. Is it time to buy? BirthdaysI've missed a lot of birthdays recently. Forgive me? =) Happy Belated and Soon-To-Be Birthdays to brokenmnemonic, avrelia, thomasina75 (FYI, we have a bed for you next year. ;), missmurchison, superplin, ketzel and electricexprmnt. I hope I didn't miss anyone. And, Finally!I watched Enchanted on TV last weekend. While the film, overall, didn't blow me away, I found Amy Adams, well, enchanting, and one musical number I could not get out of my head. I may have watched the scene numerous times thanks to my DVR. As luck would have it I found the clip on You Tube and thought it might make some of you as happy as it makes me: 'That's How You Know' performed by Amy Adams: And 'That's How You Know' performed by Kristen Chenoweth at the Oscars: Tags: battlestar galactica mini, bsg, bsg rewatch, friday night lights, life, pushing daisies Current Mood: happy

After I don't know how many years I finally broke down and purchases The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. on DVD. I'm at a loss as to why it's never dropped in price, but I saw it at 40% off and figured that's about as good as it was going to get. I've only watched disc one thus far, but I'm willing to declare the series holds up very well. Bruce was very attractive. ;) And Pete Hutter still remains one of my all time favorite supporting characters. I've also caught up on last weeks TV viewing! I don't have much to say about Bones other than I found it an entertaining 44 minutes. I do hope they find a Zach replacement soon. I've liked a couple of the grad students they've brought in and I'm growing tired of the revolving door, wondering if I should start caring about any one of these people, and fearing they'll pick someone I don't like. I should confess I was tired as I watched the premiere of Sanctuary and was on the verge of dozing off numerous times. However, if a show grabs my attention, I'll wake up. I've been known to watch both airings of Battlestar Galactica on Friday night. I won't say it's Flash Gordon bad, but it's no where near the quality of BSG, even the uneven mini, nor does it have the fun of the Stargates going for it, even with so many SG1 people in front of and behind the camera. While Amanda Tapping should forgo an accent, her performance was otherwise good and I didn't flash to Sam Carter at any point. The rest of the cast was mediocre to bad. And Will seemed nothing more than a Daniel Jackson clone, though far less amusing or engaging. I will say the look of the show was quite good. Large scale use of green screen environments can be hit or miss, I'll call it a hit here. But the series didn't offer anything new to the genre or even fresh twists on the old standbys of the genre. The premise also suffers by airing concurrently with Torchwood. Both series explore similar themes, strive to convey a darker tone, and have two lead characters who share some important traits. I'm rarely sold on a series based on it's pilot episode so I will give Sanctuary a couple of more weeks. If I don't see improvement by then, I'll find something else to watch Friday night. Oh, and Zap2it's Sanctuary review pretty much summed up my feelings. That something else may or may not be Life. I am slowly writing up a vacation/con post. It may or may not be up this week. It depends on how much of my brain the BSG season premiere eats up. :) Speaking of BSG, credit to lizardbeth_j for spotting on the updated (Finally!) BSG site at Scifi.com that the Gallery Page appears to be updated with pics through episode 10. That's an estimate on my part given what spoilage I know, which, honestly, there isn't a lot of spoilage out there to know. Though I would say some of the pictures are no more than slightly spoilerish (and that opinion may be colored by my pre-existing knowledge), lizardbeth_j has posted some non-spoilery pics here ( Really nice shot of Helo) and wisteria_ has posted some here. I debated if the one of Baltar could be considered spoilery, but it's very much in keeping with what we know of him. ;) I started my rewatch of Season 3. I don't know how many eps I can actually watch before Friday. I am skipping the standalone ups and will probably fast-forward through parts of others. What observations I've made thus far I'll probably post later tonight or tomorrow. I did have a thought about Helo's fate which isn't entirely based on what I'm seeing on the show, but is also influenced by what I know of Tahmoh's future commitments. ( Cut for speculation. )NBC decided to do their upfronts today weeks ahead of the other networks. No huge surprises other than Scrubs appears to be heading to ABC. I'm not sure how that is a great programming move on ABC's part, but, whatever. Life is moving to Fridays at 10. I'm not thrilled with that move. And Donal Logue is the new police captain. What does that mean for Lt Davis? And Friday Night Lights will air in the fall on DirectTV and in the winter on NBC. This may be the push I need to investigate the possibility of switching from Comcast to Direct. For The Office fans there will be 28 episodes produced. None of the new shows (all four of them!) sound particularly exciting to me. On Hulu I've been watching, or listening to since I'm doing this at work, the first season of Murder One. In some ways I find the show fascinating, in other ways I can see why it didn't last. Ted Hoffman is the type of attorney every client would want to have and doesn't actually exist. I also have some serious issues with how the female characters are portrayed. And today, as I was finishing up Chapter 20 (there are 23 episodes in Season 1) I found myself shipping Neal and Chris. Remember when I never saw the slash? NEVER. I blame you all! Tags: battlestar galactica s4, friday night lights, life Current Mood: contemplative

I know I quote Media Week a lot, but I like that they provide facts and not rumor or opinion presented to be fact (which is why I won't link Ausiello's report that Bionic Woman has unofficially been cancelled). Here is some interesting news about Friday Night Lights: No, the renewal for 2008-09 is not official yet. But executives at NBC Universal are reported to be in search of multiple broadcast platforms for the critically acclaimed drama. The network has had conversations, to-date, with the CW, Comcast Entertainment Networks, DirecTV and TNT about sharing a window.Personally, I'm hoping for a deal with TNT because they know drama ;) and their original series do well in the ratings. Also, The Sarah Conner Chronicles is 29th in the rating?!?! And 15th in the golden 18-49 year old category?! So what's holding up FOX with a renewal? I know it's a pricey show to produce, but AI and House need some help sustaining the network. Tags: friday night lights, tscc

It was a lovely day here today, yet I spent almost all of it indoors on my computer. There is cleaning that needs to be done. And laundry. But it was worth blowing off everything else because it was a joy to get caught up on comments on my Lee Adama post. I’ve loved talking about Lee (and Laura by extension ;) and having people make me think even more about the characters and series. Not that my love for the show ever went away, but having this kind of discussion has made me so anxious for April. It would seem sunpotted had a birthday. HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY! I hope it wasn’t too snarky or bitter for you. ;-) I finally watched the Doctor Who Christmas special this afternoon. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a lot. Kylie Minogue, who I knew little about as an actress, impressed me. And while I felt the underlying story was weak, the characters were well developed. ( A few spoilery remarks… )I’ve noticed that FNL chatter has gotten a lot quieter as the season has progressed. I’m not giving up on the show, but I’ve definitely gone from thinking it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen to, well, it’s better than a lot of crap on the air. I don’t know which is worse that the show no longer knows how to include all it’s cast members in an episode or that it is resorting to ‘TV moments’. This weeks WTF managed to turn into another WTF moment. Sigh. I’ve been going round and round as to how to address this past Friday’s Stargate: Atlantis. I’m not one who wants to squash anyone else’s squee and I don’t want my waste my time writing up a negative review, especially when it seems that danceswithwords and I seem to have reached a decision to give up and watch DVDs on Fridays until BSG returns. But then it came to me, via Gateworld. A promo pic for the forthcoming Stargate: Continuum. I’ll let Sam, Cam, and Daniel’s expression sum up how I feel: ( Not spoilery, but cut to save space on your Flist page. )And in the spirit of wanting to show how awesome SGA could be, I highly recommend going to jescaflowne’s LJ and downloading her vid ‘Another Sunday’. If I were to think about how many days are left until Christmas I would probably freak out. If I tell myself, “No one will care if this is late”, I feel much calmer. That applies more to cards then gifts right now since the cards have not yet been started, but, as of Friday night, I pretty much had the gift buying completed. Other than Target, all of my shopping has been done online this year. It’s much less stressful then dealing with the hordes at the stores. And I will forever be grateful to the brilliant folks at Amazon who thought of the Wish List. ;) And just a tip for any of you who, like me, were under the impression that office supply stores are cheaper. Avery half fold cards at Office Depot are $13.99. And at Target? $7.99. A dollar difference, even two, I could see, but six dollars??? TV viewing was rather limited this weekend. I was out and about much of yesterday (including spending three hours at work filing - joy) and this evening the DVR was tied up recording Tin Man for someone at work who practically begged me to record it for him. So that just leaves Friday TV. ( Friday Night Lights )( Stargate: Atlantis )If any of you would like to show your appreciation for Katee Sackoff, greycoupon is organizing a charity drive. Details can be found on her LJ HERE.Question for leather jacket wearers, what do you do with your old leather jackets? I bought a new one yesterday because my old one was in such bad shape I would no longer wear it in public. It's my own fault since I didn't really take proper care of it. I bought cleaner/conditioner this time to (hopefully) avoid that problem. In addition to the exterior not being in good shape, the lining is ripped to hell. I generally drop off old clothes and coats at Goodwill, but I don't think I can do it in this case. On the other hand, throwing it in the trash seems a waste. Any suggestions? December is supposed to be this joyful, celebratory month, yet it’s only the 2nd and I feel complete overwhelmed. Work is always crazy this time of year since I work in accounting and my firm works on a calendar year. But in addition to that I am massively behind on the cards, shopping, TV watching/podcast listening, and fandom stuff I want to work on. The kicker is I finally feel like getting back to writing fic and I don’t feel that I can because I have to do all these other things first. I don’t even plan on decorating because it takes up time I just don’t have to spare. Well, I do have the M&M tree and wreath, but those just need to be plugged in. And I was going to do another Twelve Days of Picspam this year, but I think I have to concede it won’t happen. I guess I’ll make it a bi-annual thing. :p Now for some quick thoughts on this past weeks TV... ( Chuck )Heroes was pointless…that is all. ( Pushing Daisies )( Dirty Sexy Money )( Friday Night Lights )( Stargate: Atlantis )I’m finally caught up on Dexter, but really don’t have much to say about the series. I enjoyed the first season more, it seemed to have a better focus to me. Dexter himself is all over the place this season so that probably accounts for the lack of cohesiveness I’m feeling. And while I have warmed up to Deb, Doakes I have grown tired of. And to waste time I don’t have ;), pellucid posted a TV Meme last week. ( And here be my answers. )Oh, to my fellow Life fans a new episode airs at 10:00pm est Monday in place of 'Journeyman'. I don't know when the schedule change was made. I had plans this weekend. Not going out and having a social life plans, but plans to tackle long gestating projects. So much for that! While I did manage to do some organizing and make the backlog on the DVR less intimidating, the WGA and subsequent fallout onto the actors has both scared and fascinated me much of the day. I dealt with the hiatus from hell, even when it got pushed back to another level of hell. I dealt with the show coming to an end after only four seasons. But if the show ends on a mid-season cliffhanger I will not be dealing well. I can only take so much NBC/Universal! And I can't even throw blame at Sci-Fi here! On to happier things, let's talk TV that is currently airing. ( Pushing Daisies )( 30 Rock )Life - No spoilery comments on this. I just wanted to say that this is the one new show this season which I've watched consistently get better. And this week they had me flirting with analyzing! ( The 'Razor' Flashback )( Friday Night Lives )( Stargate: Atlantis )I've been watching repeats of The O.C. on Soapnet and I have to say, as bad as I thought the Oliver storyline was, the Johnny storyline tops it in badness. At least the guy playing Oliver had more than a single facial expression. Johnny was a deadly combination of bad actor/boring character. We were expected to think he was competition for Ryan? Seriously? Many of you may recall I've mentioned that Ultimate Force, the series Jamie did before Battlestar Galactica, is the worst thing he's ever appeared in. Well, it would seem the American viewing audience agrees with me! BBC America pulled the show from it's schedule after five episodes (the first series was all of six episodes) and the BBC America website has no future airings scheduled. On the brightside, (I say somewhat sarcastically) I did manage to track down Jamie's final two appearances from Series 2 through alternative means. I still haven't braved watching them though. ;) Now I'm just down to lacking Jamie's season of Peal Practice. Dirty Sexy Money has been picked up for a full season! Assuming the strike ends! :p For my fellow fans, 'Carnivale' is on sale for over 50% off at Amazon.com. I'm amused that you can buy both seasons separately for a total of $44 or both seasons packaged together for $110. If you want an easy way to help show your support for the writers there is the Pencils 2 Media Moguls campaign. I sent ten boxes...and a message. ;) Don't worry, I was polite. Reviewing my post-it, I think that's everything I wanted to touch upon. :) Tags: friday night lights, jamie, pushing daisies, sga, tv_musings Current Mood: busy

Happy (belated because I didn't post this weekend) Birthday! to two swell gals from The Board That Shall Not Be Named ;) ketzel and electricexprmnt. Hope you ladies had great days. :) This was yet another weekend where things were dead, dead, dead on LJ. I was busy this weekend so only popped my head in for a few minutes here and there, but I noticed I wasn’t missing much and wouldn't have a backlog to catch up on. In addition to the weekend posting slow down, I’ve also been noticing lately that people aren’t posting as much immediately after their favorite shows air. I have a theory that this is all related and that DVRs and time shifted viewing are changing our posting habits. I think many of us catch up on our TV the next day, if it’s a show we really love, or on the weekends if it’s something we merely like (I watched Life Sunday morning while eating breakfast). When Battlestar Galactica got moved to Sundays at ten, I know it forced many of us to alter our viewing and posting routine. The nice thing is that the more relaxed viewing/posting schedule now seems to apply to all shows and, personally, I think it’s a good thing because there isn’t that ‘If I don’t post NOW, no one will read this’ mind set. Or maybe that was just me. ;) And speaking of delayed posting, here are my thoughts on a few shows from last week. First off, is anyone else not as enamored with Ugly Betty this season? I loved Season 1, but the show is barely holding my attention this season. I’m actually thinking about scratching it from my TV schedule. Betty even pissed me off this past week and that’s not a good thing. ( One thing about the ‘Razor’ flashback. )( Friday Night Lights )I haven’t seen last night’s Dexter, but have *finally* caught up on the rest of the eps. While I’m enjoying the show, I don’t feel I have a lot to say. Though, it would be crazy for me to have nothing to say ;), ( so here are a few observations. )Thanks to molly_may, 'The X-Files film begins shooting December 10th! So where has everyone been this weekend? LJ has been dead, dead, dead. My exciting weekend included…actually, there was no excitement. I did finally dump off a car full of gently-used crap to Goodwill. Yes, Phase 1 of the cleaning is complete. Of course, there are about thirty phases, but, still, one down. There was also some cleaning off of the DVR. I learned that we are being cheated on Pushing Daisies. I was able to get three episodes on a disc and I can never get more than two on a disc using the SP recording mode. And there was some post office drama. I swear, why does the automated machine make it so difficult to determine if it’s an envelope or a package? According to the graphics, it’s an envelope. According to the size, it’s an envelope. But once you put CDs in it it becomes rigid so does it become a package? Of course, I go with the two out of three and common sense and call it an envelope, but now I live in fear of mail being returned to me. Since I watch nothing regularly on the weekend, let’s talk Friday TV. First up was Friday Night Lights and, imho, the best ep thus far this season, but still flawed. ( Cut for spoilers. )( Stargate Atlantis )Because of the guest appearance of Don Davis on Flash Gordon, danceswithwords and I opted to watch and OMG HOW CAN A TV SHOW BE THIS BAD?! I don’t know how the people involved can look at themselves in the mirror in the morning. I actually had to get alcohol after the teaser. ( The ‘Razor’ Flashback. )A BIG THANK YOU to the anonymous gifter who gifted me with a gold star. :) Seriously, it meant a lot to me, especially since there isn’t that much going on with BSG right now...and that statement makes sense if you saw the note attached to the gift.
