Bullet points since I'm feeling lazy tonight. ( Chuck )( One thing about the promo for next week's 'Chuck'... )( Heroes )Links: Courtesy of the Televisionary, Mourning TV, an opinion piece posted in the NY Times written by Lost's showrunner Damon Lindelof. An excellent piece on the current state of TV viewing and how the strike effects the writers, studios, and fans. Via TV Guide, Jennifer Morrison cast in the new 'Star Trek' film. Some speculation in the comments as to who she is playing and I think those people are probably right. And I hope this means we dodged the Rachel Nichols bullet. Last, but not least, a very Happy Birthday!...a day early to kats_meow. You came up quite often in conversation this weekend. All good. Really! ;-) Tags: heroes, tv_musings Current Mood: tired

Ok, I have to confess, I didn't pay that much attention to Chuck. I made the mistake of hoping online thinking I would just check LJ during commercials, I see there is a new BSG trailer and I got distracted. However, when I don't feel like I missed much that's probably saying something. I really enjoyed the pilot, but the show has yet to really take hold of me and some elements seemed like a retread of the last two weeks. Or maybe I missed a bunch of important stuff. ( Heroes )I've been reading con reports from the Chicago con that Katee and Tahmoh appeared at this weekend. There was some spoilage which I won't get into, but a remark made by Katee at the charity breakfast in regards to Bionic Woman I found interesting. It seems the BW set is not the happiest of working environments. There has been some speculation as to why. Could Michelle Ryan be upset that Katee's gotten all the good press and has stolen her thunder? I don't know about that, but given that the show has experienced quite a bit of bad press by both the critics and the fans I could see it affecting the mood of the cast and crew. Katee also indicated that *a lot* of people at NBC keep giving their two cents. As much as I believe SciFi deserves to be criticized for many things, they rarely ever butt in with the actual day to day running of BSG. And the few times they have put their foot down with Ron and David, I have to admit, I agreed with them. I still feel Michelle was a horrible casting choice, but perhaps it's NBC's meddling that has created such a barely coherent mess of a show? Tags: heroes

Hmmmm, let's see if I remember everything I wanted to mention. ( Chuck )( Heroes )( House: The Right Stuff )Dancing with the Stars - Unless one of them breaks a leg, I'm not sure how Julianne and Helio can lose. I loved Apolo and he wasn't nearly as good as Helio in week 2. Thanks to On Demand and Showtime making it available for nonpaying customers, I'm finally catching up on Dexter. I'm watching Ep 10 as I type this. I'm enjoying it, but I'm not feeling compelled to dissect it...er, no pun intended. A couple episodes back I predicted how the first season would end and what would happen to certain characters and having read a review of the second season premiere it would seem I was right in my assumptions. I picked up the new Matchbox Twenty album today, but haven't listened to it yet since I've listened twice online recently. Best Buy is carrying a version with two live bonus tracks and I'm all for the bonuses. OK, Flist, you are failing me! I've seen no links to con reports and I know I have Katee and Tahmoh fans here! I did manage to track down one and it seems as if they didn't talk much about BSG. Perhaps that accounts for the relative LJ silence. Here's the link to the report I found. One thing jumped out at me. Julie Caitlin Brown was there and she represents Katee *and* Tahmoh. I'm now terrified that she's going after all the BSG actors and Jamie will sign with her. Though, he seems pretty laid back about the con thing and I'm assuming leaves them up to his manager to organize. Someone with a better knowledge of these things can enlighten me, but what is the point of a con manager? It just seems like yet another person you are paying out money to and none of these guys are making BIG TV money. Tags: heroes, house s4, tv_musings

As much as I look forward to the new fall season, I’m inevitably overwhelmed the very first week. Tomorrow night I have four, count them, four shows airing at 9pm. Luckily two get repeated. Bless cable and their multiple airings. Tonight was much easier going. I DVR’d Dancing with the Stars. counting on the fact I can watch the bloated ninety minute premiere in twenty minutes. ;p Then I watched, for the second time, the pilot of Chuck, which I still found very enjoyable, and the season premiere of Heroes. ( Cut for ‘Heroes’ spoilage. )Yesterday, I watched the final four episodes of The Nine online and I came to a realization. While I’m still pissed as to how ABC handled the show, I don’t know how the series could have gone beyond a season. The final four episodes, in particular, already included a lot of filler. I think American TV should start embracing the concept of limited run series. The Nine could have been awesome within the thirteen episodes that were filmed if the writers knew they had to complete the story that they presented to us in the pilot. Another reason I felt the writers bit off more than they could chew, ( cut for big spoiler about the final episode. )A few random TV related things: • I saw a Buffy/ Oz crossover fic today featuring Buffy and Toby. I couldn’t even click on the link because I was that afraid. • I heard from someone at work (yes, I've been outed as a geek!) that Flash Gordon was featured on Talk Soup. HA! Yes, SciFi, you are being mocked by E! • TV Squad had a preview/review of Bionic Woman and of the ten reader comments I saw at the time, all were negative. I know people want this one to do well because of the various BSG connections, but I’ll be surprised if it lasts the season. And on a personal note, I am quite overwhelmed by all your kind words about the drawing I did of Jamie. I haven’t really drawn anything in…what year is it? And I’m going to try and continue drawing and not let the rust set in again. I even pulled out something I started many years ago and am contemplating finishing it up. I’m also going to work more on the portraiture to try to increase my speed and refine my technique. So, thanks, you've convinced me to not let that art degree go to waste. Of course, I also need to find time to work on that long gestating post-‘Crossroads’ fic idea I had. If only I didn’t have to work! Tags: heroes, the nine, tv_musings Current Mood: sleepy

Geez, it's the lunch hour, I'm trying to eat my lunch while talking on the phone with my mom and someone on their cellphone decides not to notice that I'm on the phone talking and attempts to ask a work related question. This is only one small incident amongst many that I've had to put up with in the past several weeks. The only good thing that's happened recently is my department recieved new 19" flat screen monitors yesterday. It was a necessity after a system upgrade and the fact that the old monitors were too small to allow us to properly view the programs. The downside of this is that when I'm writing in Word or surfing the net, you'd have to be blind not to see what I'm doing. Yet, I still do it. ;) I wrote 500 words of a Hornblower fic this morning. I decide to start what I've been mulling over in my head for the past several weeks, get past my fear, and commit something, anything, to the screen. And, I have to say, I think it's a decent start. So much so I wanted to keep writing (I have it all pretty much mapped out in my head), but I had to stop myself. Stoopid job. And I still need to complete the Lee/Laura epic. I say epic because I somehow managed to cross the 8,000 word mark. Eep! I'm actually quite satisfied with the fic and working with k_julia's comments is going pretty smoothly. With previous fics there always seemed to be a point where I'd get frustrated because I wasn't seeing something or felt I was struggling with my own limitations, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. I also remind myself there is a lot of bad fic out there. ;) Now if I only could find time to finish the darn thing. ( Brief thoughts on 'Heroes' )Tags: fic, heroes Current Mood: bitchy

I only got about three hours sleep last night. And it's all k_julia's fault! She demanded porn fan fiction (which, to be fair, I did sort of promise to get to her this weekend) and the tweaking I was going to do turned into some significant rewrites and pretty soon my Midnight cut off became 3am. But a draft was finished, as finished a first draft as I've ever done, and was sent off to her and it doesn't suck! Not that I thought it did, but I tried some different things with this story and it took me weeks to get Lee and Laura naked so I was a little concerned how it would all read. Now I am on to actual tweaking, adding some relatively small things here and there. I can't begin to say how invaluable a second pair of eyes are to a story because there never fails to be something obvious I missed because I'm so close to the work. Speaking of BSG, sort of, Comcast On Demand has the perview scene up for this weeks ep. For anyone who watched the online only content after 'Torn' aired it's an extension of the scene that Sci-Fi put up. I have to make one non-spoilery comment - the command situation continues to confuse me. ( A few brief thoughts on 'Heroes: Nothing to Hide' )Now off to sleep (sorry, Julia) because the sleep deprivation and Advil have gotten the best of me. Tags: fic, heroes Current Mood: exhausted

End of month work craziness so this will be as quick as I can possibly make it... In movie news, in the past week or so I’ve seen The Prestige which I enjoyed muchly, largely do to the performances. The ‘twiists’ I figured out fairly early on, but I enjoyed watching how everything came together and I want to see the film again to pick up on some very subtle reveals. I also saw Marie Antoinette which was better than I expected. It’s an odd film in that it feels like nothing much happens, then again, we all know the story by now. As far as I could tell the film did a good job of sticking to the facts. My biggest gripe would be the casting of Jason Schwartzman who had zero screen presence and a very flat delivery. I am finally caught up with Friday Night Lights and I think they’ve got me hooked for the rest of the season. Some fabulous performances from some very inexperienced young actors. The weak link for me is the actress playing Lyla. It’s a complex role and she doesn’t seem up to it. I actually think the character could be likeable, even given some of her actions, yet my dislike of her is growing. And I could really do without the teen quasi-love triangle, but it’s hard for even the best shows to escape some melodrama. I watched the first two eps of Torchwood…and I’ll be kind and just say I didn’t like it. Unless someone on my Flist raves about a particular ep, I don’t intend to waste my time downloading and watching any longer. There were far too many problems for me in the characterizations and writing and one plot point in particular I found offensive. ( Heroes )New ‘House' tonight! And at it’s old time of 9est. I have no idea how spoilerphobic people are about SGA casting, but Gateworld has some info about a past and future guest star.Phew! Back to work! Tags: heroes Current Mood: busy
