First of all, thanks to all for the birthday wishes and [info]sweet_ali for the cupcake. ;) I'd love to report I had an exciting weekend, but that would be a lie. I actually didn't leave my apartment. Yesterday was bad weather coupled with a bad mood and today was largely spent dinking around with [info]bamber_news. I finally completed a new banner, which I was excited about. What I was less excited about and very frustrated by was having to deal with coding. I'm going to have to get brave one of these days and experiment with a new style. Today was not to be that day.

I also made scalloped potatoes and ham using a new recipe. Overall, it was a success. I cut the potatoes a little too thin and liquid boiled over the edge of the dish so now I get to clean the oven, but I've had bigger disasters. I also made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Yum. I get a treat at work tomorrow which my coworker forgot she was supposed to make until I casually mentioned on the phone I had made a dessert tonight. There was some freaking out after that. I wouldn't be upset if we waited another day, but you don't know some of the people I work with.

The Oscars! Let me start by saying, not enough Hugh. The opening number was rather cheesy, but he and Anne Hathaway were adorable together. I also had no idea her voice was that good! The rest of the show was OK. Nothing made me cringe. Some segments worked better than others. Tina Fey and Steve Martin were hilarious, but it took me a minute to realize Ben Stiller was mocking Joaquin Phoenix. The group performance of the best original songs was a mess. Peter Gabriel made the right call not to participate. No WTF? dresses, though leopard print is not Whoopi's friend. Speeches ranged from funny to touching. Overall, I'd probably give it a thumbs up. I felt the show tried to bring back old Hollywood and it seemed one of the classier and more sophisticated productions of recent memory.

I forgot to post earlier about the other two shows I watched on Friday.

Dollhouse: Stick a fork in me, I'm done. I might catch the eps on Hulu, but, honestly, I don't want to support Joss at all on this one. There's just too much I find repulsive about the show. If episode six is a major turning point, let me know, I'll consider giving it another try.

I know, I was probably one a long ago, but as I was watching the G4 networks live coverage of Comic Con tonight I felt as if I crossed the point of no return. :p

The highlight of their coverage was seeing Hugh Jackman who looks OMG SO GORGEOUS! Not that he was an eyesore before, but he just looked particularly fabulous. I was shocked o discover he was at Comic Con and so, apparently, were the people at Comic Con. He was a surprise guest at a panel this morning. Even though X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not due out until May 2009, he was there with some footage. Here's a pretty good recap of what footage was shown.

New Line is developing a sequel to 'Hairspray'. I just hope they can get the original cast back together.

I'm glad you all convinced me to post my Dr. Horrible thoughts, I've been enjoying the discussion. And people agreeing with me. ;)

Track schedules are starting to pop up for Dragon Con. It looks like we'll be spared a BSG vs Trek panel. Woo! I hear the American Sci Fi Track schedule is going to be tweaked (EJO was missing from the BSG panels and Jamie may have to cancel due to 'L&O: London' filming) and I'm waiting on some others, but expect me to be posting schedules in the coming weeks. I know you all can't wait for that. ;p

I baked banana blueberry cheesecake bread tonight. Yes, I did make the recipe up! Now, I think I shall go see if I baked it long enough.

I had every intention of going out today. There was actual sun and it was a balmy 40 degrees. I even blew off hanging out with a friend. And why? So I could chain myself to my computer. It wasn't unproductive web surfing at least. I did a little housekeeping at [info]bamber_news. (And just noticed the comm can be syndicated. ::head desk::) Cleaned up my bookmarks, my Google homepage, and my browser. And after having the same header and layout on this LJ for years, I finally changed it. It was a little hard to remove the lovely Lee header created by [info]sdwolfpup, but I felt I needed to remodel. Months ago, I expected the Season 4 promo pics to showcase Lee in a suit rather than the uniform and told myself I was going to make a new header with one of those images. Two days and countless hours later, I completed my task. I'm not sure if the lyrics (courtesy of Lifehouse) and images work as well as they should, but they make sense to me. I intended to make an icon with "Beautiful Tragedy" back on Joy Day, but it didn't seem very joyful. ;)

The header actually turned out better than I expected, though not quite the image I had in my mind. I don't have Photoshop or any other really spiffy graphics program, so I make do with what I have. I learned some new tricks which is cool. And I think I figured out how to save graphics at a hire resolution! I just wish LJ would make it easier for less tech inclined people like myself to insert a header. It's one reason I'm sticking with the component layout.

TCM was nice enough to run two of my all time favorite movies yesterday, Singin in the Rain and All About Eve. The latter I could listen to the dialogue over and over and over again. They don't make them like that anymore.

I also watched 'Flesh and Bone' on HD Universal. I had a thought. More like revisiting a thought. Cut for episode discussion and Season 4 speculation. )

Other joyful moments this weekend:

* My passport arrived! Yeah, the picture sucks, but the good news is the government couldn't find any dirt on me! It also shows that processing time is back to about four weeks. Man, a branch of the government is doing it's job. Who'd of thunk it?

* Wolverine Promo Pics. GUH. Accept the last one freaks me out a bit. I really doubt Hugh's been shooting up steroids for this outing (and he looks normal in the other two photos) so I'm going with really disturbing photoshopping.

* I found my flash drive! The one I got uber cheap and that's been missing for months.

Things that were distressing to me:

* I thought LJ was messing with my Flist, randomly adding people, until I clicked on the journals and discovered that several of you have decided to change your names without mentioning it. :p

* I have a My Space page. It's under a fake name, I have no profile, and no posts. The only reason I set it up was to access some stuff. So why is someone sending me a message? No, I haven't opened it yet. I'm a little afraid to.

I meant to post this yesterday, but I got sidetracked by holiday card composing and Christmas shopping (online - I'm not crazy!), but I know at least one person was interested in my take on The Fountain. Overall, I enjoyed it. Hugh Jackman, imho, gave the best damn performance I've ever seen him give and there was a nice chemistry between he and Rachel Weisz. And there may be a scene in a bathtub I would highly recommend seeing. ;-) But while parts of the film worked very well, one point in particular left me going WTF?

Cut for not-overly specific spoilers )

I should be on my way to work, but then I recalled that the BSGers were at The Museum of Television and Radio event last night and I *had* to look for reports. I even went to the TWOP site! So far, not much info accept they showed a Season 3 preview clip that, duh, contains spoilage. Now, on Monday, the MTR site will have a webcast of the event posted. Personally, I hope they include the preview clip, but maybe they won't. For you spoiler phobes, if you want to wait a day to hear if it's safe to watch, I shall let you know.

[info]blondeheroine posted this link to the trailer for Hugh Jackman's next film, Scoop. I want to see this film *now*. Not only is there a lot of shirtless goodness, but Woody Allen appears to be funny and not chasing after women a third of his age.
