Asta 2

Supposedly at James' Q&A at The Harvest, when asked about his role on Angel, he said something along the lines of 'I will have a soul and I will be a....' at which point the crowd shushed him.

I'm guessing he was going to say he would still be a vampire. Whether Joss originally toyed with the idea of Spike shanshuing, I think there has been too much presumption that that is what would happen. Therefore, it ain't going to happen.

I originally questioned having two vamps with souls on the same show, but now I think it may be quite entertaining. DB could finally get to show his humorous side playing Angel's jealousy (we already saw a hint of it in Chosen) and perhaps his resentment that Spike seems to be dealing with it better (in my opinion).

Then again, maybe James was going to say "human". Or, more likely, he doesn't know what the Hell he's talking about. :p

I'd say it's more likely he doesn't know what he's talking about ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if Spike remains a vampire. The question is, though, how is he brought back to the land of the living? I have to wonder if TPTB intervene somehow and send him back. Since it will be AtS TPTB can be a logical reason for him being back, and in his previous incarnation - that he'll better serve his "mission" as a vampire. And his mission? Hopefully to make Angel as miserable as possible while pointing out the folly of allying with Wolfram & Hart ;)
Spoiler alert
This is something I read. May or may not be accurate.

In an interview with Joss, SFX says Spike will be human. It wasn't a quote, I don't think. (Can't find the mag just now).

Still, this is the time of year for endless red herrings, so I'll just wait and see. Plus, like last year, I'm gonna avoid spoiler boards and forums.
Re: Spoiler alert
I read that interview with Joss in SFX. Joss doesn't actually say that, it's the writers conclusion.

I know the first script hasn't been written yet that they are just contemplating the different story elements right now. I do think it's possible, with writers being present at The Harvest, that James has been clued in to Spike's incarnation on Angel. But, until actual spoilers star leaking in a couple of weeks, we won't know for sure.

Like you Jonesie, I intend to avoid the spoiler forums as much as possible (too much confusion and too many headaches). But, I admit, I do want to know how Spike returns.

I think this would be priceless. Can you just see Angel asking Spike all kinds of questions about his resouling and different things that might have happened and Spike saying no, it didn't take all that long to get reconciled with his soul. Of course "It was a bit easier because I had someone who believed in me". LOL!
