Dragon Con 2008: The First of Many Posts

Continuing the trend of years past to be a control freak ;p, I've worked up a Dragon Con schedule. I'm sure it will change between now and the con.  If you take a look at the long list of panels it includes fandoms I'm not part of.  I figured I'd include some panels I thought might be of interest to anyone going looking at this post. The Galactica panels are my priority with Stargate being the next fandom of interest. I definitely would like to see at least one of the Heroes panels, but not all four. The rest?  Who knows?

Things of note:

Adam Baldwin canceled, again.  I've looked at enough con schedules over the past couple years to see a tendency on Adam's part to sign up for a lot of cons and appearing at very few.  That's not a slam, just an observation.  I'm sure this cancellation was due to filming on Chuck.

The X-Files track schedule is *still* not up.  Sorry, thomasina75, I was thinking of you! ;)

There are panels at night this year.  It's a sign of how big DC has gotten.

Another sign is that panels are being held at the Marriott, Hyatt, and Sheraton.  Fortunately, most of what I'm interested in is at the Marriott, but I can forsee a lot of running between hotels for people.  And how far away is the Sheraton?

When I first looked at panels, I noticed a few people were scheduled for more than one panel a day which I thought was a no-no at DC.  James Marsters schedule has been adjusted so he is only doing one a day, but George Takai is scheduled for two within a half hour of each other at two different hotels on Friday.  I'm wondering if adjustments will still be made and the different tracks haven't communicated very well.

Torri Higginson has just been added!  That could be interesting.

And if you are attending DC, feel free to leave a comment and maybe we can meet up at some point. :)  Assuming my flights don't get fraked up I'll be arriving early Thursday evening and leaving late Monday afternoon.

I noticed a lot of panels have been and are still being moved to the Marriott so don't give up hope yet! Apparently, there are some smaller conference rooms that can be used. I noticed when I was searching for someone who I may feel compelled to sit in on a Q&A. I think the only must for me at the Sheraton would be checking out the parties on Saturday night. Or if Tahmoh's talk ends up there.

I think I mentioned to you as well as danceswithwords that, with Jamie canceling, I'll be less obsessive about the BSG panels. ;) I'm actually feeling more laid back this year about the whole thing even though I fear, with so much being moved to the Marriott, traversing the lobby is going to be a pain in the ass.
I just looked up a photo of The Atrium Ballroom. It looks gorgeous, and I love the windows -- though I wonder how that'll affect photography.

I looked at the list and thought, "Wait, seven BSG guests?" Then I remembered Hatch. So easy to forget him. ;)

I think the Sheraton is about a block or two down from the Hilton.

Pity about Adam Baldwin. I tend to stay away from the Jossverse stuff at D*C, but I would've liked to have seen him talk about Chuck.

... And it'll still be insanely crowded. ;)

Heh. But, darn, I had a reply! ;)

I checked a map a week or so ago and the Sheraton looked like it was about two blocks away. By no means a long walk, but it will be a bitch to maneuver if there are two panels scheduled back-to-back at two different hotels that you are interested in seeing.
All the events at the Marriott Atrium and the Sheraton this year! Maybe the crowd situation really will be a little more bearable since it will be spread out more, even if that does mean there will be a lot of running. I'm not exactly sure where the Sheraton is in relation to the Marriott, so that should be interesting.

Looking through this, the only panel I know right away I'll be seeing is the Dollhouse one with Penikett. I wouldn't be opposed to a Heroes panel even though I dropped the show after about three episodes last year, mostly just to see George Takei. I'm sure despite all my misgivings I'll catch Marsters sometime over the weekend. It's like a sickness! I want the XF schedule to go up so I can see if Dean Haglund is performing his stand-up.
I think the Sheraton is about two blocks away. You should know, you live there! :p

It's cool that there is one panel we both definitely want to see ('Dollhouse') this year though I fear Tahmoh will get asked a lot of BSG related questions.
I visit that part of Atlanta about as often as you do.;)

I fear Tahmoh will get asked a lot of BSG related questions.

Eh, I imagine he'll be limited in what he can say about Dollhouse anyway, so the BSG questions are to be expected. And yay, I'll have someone to go to at least one panel with! *g*

You are going to become a big Tahmoh fan so you should just plan on going to all the BSG panels now. ;-)

I think we should try watching at least one 'Buffy' episode together this year. We owe you!
WOO!!!!!!! Tahmoh's doing a Dollhouse track! \o/

I am very saddened that Adam Baldwin has had to cancel. I even ordered a photograph of him from Creation so that I'd be sure to have a pic that I liked for him to autograph. Oh, well. At least I didn't have to pay for the pic, since I finally got around to using the gift certificate I won at the last Creation BSG con.

I actually got Adam's autograph in 2005. I hadn't planned to get it, but he was donating all the money he made at the con to Katrina relief.

Ya know, I'm not as excited as others about Dollhouse, but I am excited Tahmoh is doing a solo panel. :)
How was I unaware that Michael Hogan was attending? That's fan-freakin'-tastic. I'm so excited now!
Michael was added right after Jamie canceled so I think he's his sub. I wonder if that means we'll get a replacement for Katee?
God, I think I'm actually interested in the Trek Trak this year. How did that happen? But I'd bet Avery Brooks and Michael Dorn have some interesting things to talk about.

On the other hand, I'm not that enthused by the Stargate panels, because I found Erick Avari unbelievably irritating two years ago, and while Beau Bridges might be lovely in person, my impatience with General Landry knows no bounds, and between the two of them it just feels like it would be an hour of being annoyed. (David Nykel might be fun, though.)
Hey, I want to see George Takai! He and Walter Koenig's Q&A might be interesting, but do I want to, er, trek over to the Sheraton right before the BSG panel?

The Stargate panels are a let down after last year. I was enthused about the tribute to Don S Davis until they posted the panelists. Julie Caitlin Brown??? I'm guessing she was his con manager. I'd probably want to make sure we saw a panel with Cliff, Morena and Jewel.

I'm not nearly as crazed about panels as I was last year. Yay?
