Dragon Con 2008 Continued

Well, it wouldn't be Dragon Con if plans started going out the window a week before.

The two big news items today were the posting of the Pocket Program and the announcement that NBC won't allow the 'Heroes' cast to do any panels. No details as to why NBC has made this decision, but I won't be shocked to see Hayden cancel now.

Other possible points of interest:

Edward James Olmos is only appearing at the Friday and Saturday BSG panels. He is doing a Bladerunner panel on Sunday and a solo panel on Monday. Tahmoh is not appearing at the BSG panel on Sunday since he has a Dollhouse panel that morning. The one panel a day rule still seems to be in effect, at least for the bigger names.

However, Science Guy, Kevin Grazier, is scheduled to appear at eleven panels and has been added to a couple of the BSG talks.

The Whedonverse panel Monday afternoon with Nathan, Alan, and James Marsters has been scrapped. Phew! Actually, I noticed that many of the bigger names are not scheduled for any panels on Monday. It looks like people are only doing a three day weekend.

Alan Tudyk is nowhere on the schedule, but I seem to recall that this was all finalized this weekend and sent to the printer.

Rooms will be cleared between panels.

James Marsters and Nathan Fillion are seated near each other on the Walk of Fame. :/ Kevin Sorbo is no where near the BSG cast. :D

Man. I don't want to be mean, but is there someone I can appeal to about getting Kevin Grazier off panels? Because I am not there to hear him talk.

Also, Katee is still listed for some panels. Sigh.
A lot of the individual schedules have not been updated. I can't believe it's that difficult to remove Katee and replace her with Michael.
However, Science Guy, Kevin Grazier, is scheduled to appear at eleven panels and has been added to a couple of the BSG talks.

UGH. He annoys the crap out of me, even though he might not deserve it. I just really don't want to see him going on and on about the science stuff that I don't care one whit about. (But then the fanboys like it, which probably explains it all.)

Edward James Olmos is only appearing at the Friday and Saturday BSG panels.

Y'know, I'm actually kind of glad. I adore the guy and really want to hear him speak, but I have a feeling that many of the questions will be for him. This will give the other actors a chance to get some of the spotlight in the other two panels.

The SGA panels should be interesting with the news today that the show will end after S5. I still don't plan to go to the panels, but I'll be curious to read the recaps on LJ.

I agree. I was worried about him monopolizing the panels because he'd get the majority of the questions and I just don't see the rest of the cast cutting him off. ;)

I'm definitely checking out at least one Stargate panel because they should be very interesting now. I wonder if Torri Higginson and Rainbow Sun Francks will be in a celebratory mood? ;-)
Thanks for this! I bow down in admiration of your organizational skills.

James Marsters and Nathan Fillion are seated near each other on the Walk of Fame. :/ Kevin Sorbo is no where near the BSG cast.

Heee, that should all make for a pleasant Walk of Fame experience for all of us. Although, it can be fun for me to watch you cast the evil eye in Sorbo's direction.

The only scheduling issue I see arising for me is deciding if I want to see JM on Friday when I should be standing in line for NF. I think JM's panel on Saturday is about Torchwood, which I'm not the least bit interested in seeing, so I'll see him Friday or not at all, probably. Unless I change my mind.;)

I know you and danceswithwords will probably want to go to the Don Davis tribute on Sunday, but if you decide not to, I'm going to encourage you both to come with me to Dean Haglund's improv. He's hilarious.

All the parties are over at the Sheraton this year. Interesting.
Knowing my luck, I will see Sorbo numerous times over the course of the weekend.

Unless something changes, I think Nathan's panel will be my first on Friday so I can save you a seat. ;)

I don't know if DWW and I will be going to the Don Davis tribute. The guests at that panel are not exactly the people who spent the most time with him on the show.

At least with the parties being at the Sheraton the lobby won't be such a nightmare to maneuver.
Putting aside JCB's presence, I'm really more interested in the panels with Torri and Rainbow given the news about SGA.
My money's on them being annoyingly diplomatic, if for no other reason than that at least one other panelist is losing a job from the cancellation. But I would love to be proven wrong.
Heeee. It occurred to me that you might feel that way, but I didn't know if there were other people on the panel who might be a draw for you. Good, now I will try to convince you to go to the Dean Haglund thing with me, because it's a good time! Poshcat and SDwolfpup can back me up on this!
One of these days, I'll work out what it was Kevin Sorbo did that's earned him the implied threat of eternal torment from you ;)

The last I heard anything about Kevin Grazier, he'd been booked for D*C but not nominated for any panels. It sounds like things have gone from one extreme to the other!

Is it weird that if I was going one of the panels I'd really like to see is the Aliens remembered panel? Ah well. I shall live vicariously through the reports everyone else posts :)
My Kevin issues go waaaaay back. I'm sure I'll have more stories to share after this DC. ;p

I would love to see the Aliens panel. I just watched the film again the other night. But it's up against BSG and 'Firefly' and that choice is difficult enough for me. :(
Kevin must've done something dark and terrible ;) I still wtn to know how I've ended up with his autograph about four times now, despite never having met the man.

I get the impression from what I've seen on LJ that if you want to see one panel, you have to queue outside through the panel before. That sounds like the sort of thing that'd leave me in panel meltdown ;)
It's not unheard of for people to wait five hours in line for a panel. Maybe that's OK if you are only at DC for one fandom, but I'm a multi-fandom girl. ;) My friends and I have decided we'll wait an hour to an hour and a half in line, but that's about it.
So if the one panel a day rule is still in effect, are Morena Baccarin and Jewel Staite doing Stargate or Firefly on Saturday? Are they not important enough to qualify for this rule? ;-)

Good catch! I knew doing all this at Midnight while watching the women's beach volleyball final was a bad idea! ;) I just edited the post. Morena and Jewel are just doing the 'Firefly' panel on Saturday. Torri Higginson and Rainbow Sun Francks are taking their places at the 'Stargate' panel. It also looks like Jewel won't be around at all on Friday.

As I mentioned to molly_may, I think Nathan's panel will be my first of the day so I can hold places for you two. :)
Aw, I knew this was going to happen! I knew people were going to start talking about Dragon*Con and I would get all sad I'm not going!

Mostly, though, I'm sad not to see you and the various other members of the LJ gang who will be there. I'm actually not all that sad not to be contemplating lines and panels and scheduling. Since none of the three people I'd really get super-excited about are coming this year (Claudia Black, Ben Browder, or Mary McDonnell), I'm indifferent to the guests. But I will most definitely miss the hanging out with fangirls part!!!!!!!!!!!!
The number of panels I'm interested in going to looks manageable, and I'm not super-motivated to try to be at the front of the auditorium for any of them (well, maybe Firefly), so I'm feeling relatively relaxed about the line situation. Let's see how long that lasts.
Greycoupon just gave me the heads up that Alan has joined Nathan's talk on Friday and it's been moved to the Regency. I say we make this the panel we try to get up close for and not sweat the others.

I also would like to be up close for Tahmoh's 'Dollhouse' panel and given that it's at 10:00am on Sunday that may not be too difficult. ;)
Thanks for the heads up. This is not at all a surprise. I had a feeling they'd add Alan to Nathan's talk and then move it to a larger room. They should put me on staff! ;)
Avery Brooks! I never saw his name much on con programs when I was very actively into ST... I know DS9 wasn't your Trek, but I'm a bit jealous there anyway. :-)

But quite the line-up! Quite the tough choices, I bet...
I don't think Avery does many cons. I wouldn't mind hearing him speak, but the Trek panels are about fourth on the priority list so I'm not sure if it will work out.
