Asta 2

Holiday Recap

Hello All. I hope you all had nice holidays. Mine was uneventful, which I suppose is a good thing. No exciting gifts from my mom to report. Though she did give me a sizable check which is always nice. And I got some lovely and surprising gifts from friends. sdwolfpup and brynnmck sent me a coffee mug with my drawing of Jamie on it. Hee! It's next to the Lee Adama mug someone had made for me a couple years ago. If I feel motivated later on, I'll take a picture and post it.

I got a ton of cards and I know the thing to do is to list all the swell folks who sent them to me, but, um, I'm lazy and that's a lot of html code! Let me just say they are all very much appreciated. Though I'm trying to figure out if I owe the U.S. Postal Service $.20 for sweet_ali's booby trapped card. ;)

The Detroit Lions finally proved what I've been saying for decades. They are the worst team in football EVER. 0-16! Woo! What kills me is they tried to win the game. Look, if you are going to suck this bad, embrace the suck.

I got over the 'Black Market' hump, it was very difficult, and have made it through Season 2 of BSG. I think I'll start on Season 3 then work on my next post. I have to say, for people who have been critical of the show's missteps, and I readily admit there have been missteps both minor and major, the series holds up remarkably well on rewatch. I'm much more sympathetic to certain characters given later developments and certain couplings are making more sense to me. Though 'Black Market' I can never forgive them for. I missed seeing Jamie at Dragon Con for that!

Amazon.com posted a bunch of the BSG webisodes yesterday. Surprisingly, they remain up. Webisode 9 is still missing, but all the rest are there. I haven't been a fan of this batch of webisodes. They seemed pointless to me and full of plot holes, which is more of a problem when you are dealing with such a short running time. But in the final minute of the final webisode I saw what they were leading up to. For anyone skipping the webisodes, I do suggest watching them before the season starts because they throw light on an upcoming plot point. Yes, I'm slightly spoiled.

I watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special, which I forgot about until I saw it mentioned on my Flist. I don't find I have anything to say. It was OK, though I felt it dragged more than previous Christmas specials.

Amazingly, I got a lot done around the apartment this weekend, including reorganizing my CDs and DVDs...then remembering I had a bunch of DVDs in the other room. :/ I also took advantage of sales online and bought some shoes and clothes. I'm trying to get a jump on one of my perennial New Year's resolutions to stay on top of things and not procrastinate. Maybe this coming year I shall succeed.

Hahahaha, ok. I will begrudgingly give them another chance. They are painful bad so far.
If you watch 'Black Market' then watch the webisodes, they really don't seem that bad. ;)

I was perplexed by the praise the critics were giving them, until it dawned on me that the praise was just for having any new BSG material to watch. I really wish someone would judge them on their own merits.

If you just watch Webisode 8 and 10 you'll probably be OK going into the new season. :)
Hm, so you're telling me I should hang in there with the webisodes. *g*
I was about to give up on them, but when I discovered I could see all but one in a single sitting and get it over with I decided to watch. I could be wrong, but I think the closing minute is key to an event in the new season.
I followed your (implied *g*) advice and watched them that way. I think you're right about the closing minute or so -- it would fit very nicely as background for a certain key event that we both seem to be spoiled for.

It actually makes me sad that both sets of webisodes really aren't that great, because I like the idea and the concept of this type of tie-in medium to a regular show. If the execution of these had been better I think they'd have generated much more of a buzz and I'm sure we'd be seeing more of this type of thing already from other shows (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall hearing about other shows going down this route). Apparently Sanctuary isn't doing all that great either which leads me to wonder whether it was just a blip on the net or if there's a future for web-based "original" programming in the established system.

It seems a lot of people are spoiled for a certain key event. But, if I recall correctly, it's hinted at in one of the promos.

The Office and Chuck post additional footage on line, but I don't think they are viewed as webisodes. In the case of The Office, I believe it's mostly footage cut for time.

'The Resistance' webisodes, while uneven, I felt were more successful than this current batch. They had a longer and vaguer time period to work with, which helped eliminate some plotting WTFs, but they were also written and filmed concurrently with Season 3 and thus helped develop plot points. The webisodes we are getting now were written and filmed months after the series wrapped and it feels as if they were just created as filler to wet our appetite for the new season. But, with the exception of Gaeta, I know none of the people on the raptor and, therefore, their deaths mean nothing to me. I also fear once I see webisode 9 that past events might be retconned.
I still haven't watched Doctor Who! Thankfully it's repeated tomorrow. Now all I have to do is remember to watch it...

I suddenly had a panic that I hadn't sent you a card - just checking that I did...
