Frakking Kidding Me - jenahville

Ok, seriously, enough of the Whedonverse/Mooreverse cross-pollination.

'Caprica' snags James Marsters!

And the character description isn't instilling a lot of faith in me in regards to the writing: "Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley in a minimum of three episodes. Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable." Was Baranabus Tom Zarek's mentor? I'm trying to keep an open mind, but it's becoming more and more difficult.

And it just hit me that James is now part of the BSG universe and next year at DC could end up on a panel with people I really like. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

::weeps::
Huh. I have three fandoms and now he's going to be in all of them as Spike no matter what the character name is...
Heh. Yeah, he's not exactly showing a lot of range. I loved Spike. I loved what he did with the character. But I think Russell and Jane are doing him a disservice by largely paying fan service and casting him in roles that they believe his fans want to see him in.

And I loved Jane's work on Buffy, but I had issues with her writing on BSG and it makes me fearful for Caprica.
The "carnal" part is, I fear, Jane paying fan service. Which also leads me to wonder if she is writing for the show or writing for who she wants to see on the show. Yeah, I'm not real optimistic about Caprica.

Gods- and I say this as a huge Zarek fan girl- I hope not.

I can handle Adama in Caprica, although the less we see of him the better. And I can handle the Lampkin family, perhaps, because it was BSG canon that Romo Lampkin knew Joseph Adama, although I'd rather we never saw it. But I do not want to see ANY MORE of the BSG people. NONE OF THEM. PERIOD. Otherwise, it gets way too Episode One, where the eight most important people in the galaxy have all been connected long before they needed to be.
Your fears are my fears. Not only has this "all happened before and will happen again", but everyone shared a connection fifty years earlier! And did you hear the rumor about Luciana Carro being cast on the show? They are counting on BSG fans watching the series, they can't cast a reoccurring character from BSG and expect us not to think, "Kat!". So is she playing her grandmother? And I'm just waiting for Bill to cross paths with Laura on a school field trip because the writers will think it's a cute idea. Sigh.
If he meets Laura (and swears he hates her or he'll marry her), I'm going to cry. Then gag. Then cry some more. ICK.

Also, if he babysits baby Felix, gets frustrated, and swears he's going to kill him, I will throw something at my TV. (Fortunately, I don't think they'll ever get THAT corny.)

The Luciana Carro one is weird. I'd actually heard about someone else who had played on BSG and was playing on Caprica, but she had such a bit part on BSG (like one of the Quorum members or something) that unless you were a MAJOR BSG geek, you'd never notice it was the same actress. But yeah, anyone who's had a speaking role and a name... no. It just shouldn't happen.

::Sigh:: Out of curiosity, does Joss film up near Vancouver?

Given the seemingly small Vancouver acting pool, I have no issues with an actor who had a blink and you missed it part on BSG having a much more substantial role on Caprica. But if the actor played a character we got to know and love/like/loathe - and BSG had a gift for allowing us to form attachments to *a lot* of supporting players - it would be incredibly distracting to watch them play a new character on Caprica.

All of Joss's shows have filmed in and around LA. And Jane still lives there. Via her twitter feed I know she's been commuting to work on Caprica.
Luciana said her Caprica character is not related to Kat at all, and not related to the Cylons, either, for that matter.

I assume she'll look very different in the show. Whereas her hair and makeup on BSG emphasized the strength and judgmental side of Kat, her hair and makeup in Caprica is likely to do the exact opposite (i.e. fair, long and straight hair, more smiles, etc). As goes for the famous Kat-ty attitude. I doubt they cast her in a role that feels just like Kat.

But I agree, for us hardcore BSG fans it'll be difficult to watch the new character without being distracted.
I like JM, think he's talented and all and I DO want him to get work and all... Is it awful that I'm just glad it isn't "Dollhouse"?

Really, I know very very little about Caprica, rumors, reputation, etc. So I could be wishing badness or something, but... Yeah, just glad it wasn't Dhouse. Though I know there's still a chance ;)
Oh, I'm sure his time will come on Dollhouse. If not for Castle, Nathan Fillion would be guest starring. Besides, I shouldn't have to suffer by myself! ;p
Maybe it'll be canceled by then ;)

::is just being mean and knows that any time I wish shows would go away they just hang out waaaaay too long::
Great, thanks, now I have a weird 'How I Met Your Mother'/'Caprica' mash-up in my head!
Eeeeh. I enjoyed him as Spike in the parts of Buffy I saw. But I wasn't that impressed with him in Torchwood and it sounds like he's going to be playing the same character again, except this time a rip off of Zarek at the same time, but with some extra sex put in to...remind us that Caprica is gonna be sexy?

I really want to like Caprica, but I wasn't impressed with the pilot and it's not really doing a great job of making me inclined to give it a second chance unless my friends start raving about it.

Though I have to admit I'm curious how they'll handle the fact that their fundamentalist terrorists are all One True Godders which BSG kind of...proved absolutely correct? Cus. Well. Yeah.

Annnnd, I think you've summed up the situation nicely!

James is a good actor, but his casting by Jane and Russell and the roles they have created for him just scream fan service to me. I felt some of the interaction between Jack and John in the first 'Torchwood' episode James appeared in was painfully forced.

HA! Good point.
Why does this sound somewhat akin to them getting Lucy Lawless back for S3 of BSG? "Great, we've got Lucy Lawless guest-starring! AWESOME! So... what do we do with her then?"
Eick worked on 'Xena', didn't he? I always forget about that. I have less of a problem with her appearing on BSG, but that's largely because I never watched 'Xena' and am unfamiliar with her crazy fans. ;) Plus, from what I know of Xena, D'Anna wasn't a copy of her. James seems to be playing the same part over and over.
Did Joss and Ron make a pact to make sure their former actors continue to get jobs?
