Asta 2

More Firefly! Control Your Enthusiasm. :)

I finished listening to the commentaries last night. Not as many big revelations or observations as I had listening to the first two commentaries, still, a few thoughts.

Shindig - I like listening to Jane Espenson discuss her writing, but no big revelations. Since costume designer Shawna Trpcic was involved in the commentary, there was a lot of discussion of the dresses. Apparently, Morena Baccarin got to wear part of Shawna's wedding dress.

Out of Gas - It was interesting listening to David Solomon and Tim Minear talk about how the episode was filmed. I'm usually bored by the technical stuff, but they made it interesting. I didn't listen to it again, but a bit of Inara's conversation with Simon gives us a clue as to her character's past.

Oh, and in the 'this broke my heart' department. The Red Button. The one Mal was to push to call them back when he got his miracle? Alan Tudyk took it from the set his last day of shooting and later sent it to Joss (who was busy trying to save the show after cancellation). The note told him to just push the button to call the cast back when he got his miracle. ::sobs::

War Stories - I recall very little other than Nathon and Alan are two very funny men.

The Message - A very serious episode. Alan Tudyk and Jewel Straite were *not* the people to have do the commentary. They recalled several amusing anecdotes from the set since The Message was the last show they shot (they knew the show had been cancelled). There were also continued reminders by Alan that River was nuts (in case we didn't know) and much merriment over Tracey's death scene.

Objects in Space - stepinsidelove mentioned in another one of my posts that Joss' commentary was, well, pretentious. I get that now. ;) There's a lot of existentialist mumbo-jumbo, theorizing about the meaning of objects, and the importance of Summer Glau's feet. Suffice it to say, some of it went over my head, some of it just didn't interest me.

However, I did enjoy hearing Joss' feelings on the character of River and how this episode was the episode in which she finally became a part of the crew. Sadly, just as they accepted her, the show ended. :( It would have been interesting to see how she interacted with the others in future episodes.

And there was one revelation of sorts. Joss at one point stated in reference to River, "Though she may have been designed for killing...". A-Ha! I knew it! OK, I'm sure a lot of other people suspected as much too. The girl was waaaay to handy with a gun in Ariel. I also suspect since Joss was drawing so many comparisons between she and Early including their psychic/perceptive abilities (what separates River from Early is her heart) that they were products of the same government program.

And on an unrelated note, a meme gakked from jesouhaite47.

Grrr. LJ or the internet ate my reply.

Is it OK for me to add you to my Friends list, asta?
Grrr. LJ has been a bit tempermental today.

No need to ask - feel free to add me to your friends list. :)
I feel it polite to ask before adding a person's journal to my Friend's list. You're added (you can add me back if you want to).
I didn't know you were in Michigan? What part? I spent the first 22 years of my life there (moved to VA after college).
Well, technically I'm from East Grand Rapids, but I tend to just say Grand Rapids - makes things easier. And, thus far, I've been here thrity-one years.

You are the second person I've met online from the Detroit area. Two people who managed to escape. ;)
Yes, I'm incredibly late replying. It's been one of those weeks...

I'm from the other side of the state. Born in Troy, moved to Lapeer at 5 (but my dad still lived in the Detroit 'burbs), and went to State for 4 years. We've been in Virginia for 7 years, and people still ask me when we're moving back. The standard response: "Are you nuts?!?!?"

There are things I miss about living in MI: Faygo Rock-N-Rye, Labatts Blue Light, grandparents that live near-by for babysitting duty, and Michigan State football games. There is a lot more I don't miss: no sun for 5 months and bitter-ass cold for way too long each year being only 2. :P
Stupid LJ just gobbled up my response. What I was trying to say was...who are these nuts that want you to move back here? Is it the fact that Michigan has the least sun of any state? Or the eleven months of road construction that they find so appealing?

The cold doesn't bother me per se. I was in NY recently and loved it there. The cold alone would not be a deterint to keep me away from a place.

Of course, now I will think of you everytime I pass by a Faygo display. :)
What I was trying to say was...who are these nuts that want you to move back here?
Mostly family that has never lived anywhere BUT Michigan. They can't understand that it's not Mecca.

Is it the fact that Michigan has the least sun of any state? Or the eleven months of road construction that they find so appealing?
Hee!

As for the cold, I never minded until I moved South. Once you get away from it, it's extremely hard to go back.

Of course, now I will think of you everytime I pass by a Faygo display. :)
Seriously, there are days I would sell my first born for a Rock-n-Rye. Luckly, my father in law keeps us well stocked when he visits. :P
Okay, since I decided to stay home tomorrow and not treck through the snow until the village has shoveled the sidewalks, I am going to start watching Firefly - along with posting my resume on some internet sites, and working on my first lesson from the Video Professor (Excel).
YAYYY!!! And I'm glad you have your priorities straight - watching Firefly first. ;)

Hey, I bought a copy of Excel For Dummies this weekend in order to improve my skills. Looks like we can help each other out now. :)
Lol - I was so unsurprised to read to had red hair. Suits you perfectly for some reason. Which would usually mean you use a Willow icon, but I don't think you've been doing that. :)
